Our sincere ‘Thank You’ to everyone for sustaining the net during our absence. Dave K7DV and Christine AF7OK took the lead and everyone supported them nicely. No surprise I guess, you’re Amateur Radio Ops. We really appreciate you all. Dave and Christine forwarded their logs and we’ll eventually post them on the Report page. FLDIGI logs require editing to remove the noise before posting. The amount of noise in the log is related to your squelch setting. Condx sometimes requires a low setting; this increases the recorded noise. Removing it is tedious and time consuming; we’ll get to it when we can. Thanks to Mindy W7ZAP for doing this chore every week. We’re still recovering our heath. We hope to be back to our usual routines and chores by next week.  Thanks for working with us.  CU next week.

Doug K7KY

ORCA Announcements 31/jan/17

Thanks so much to everyone for filling in for us the last two weeks.

I’ve not yet read all the logs you sent, but enough to deeply appreciate

your efforts. In particular, we want to thank Dave K7DV for actually

taking over NCS duties, and Christine AF7OK for assisting him. Many

more of you were also very active. Our appreciation to each of you for

sustaining the net.

We’re beginning to recover and regain our focus and strength. Neither

of us have ever been so ill. It’s been quite a wakeup. Our radios

and internet have been QRT. Current social discourse is a shocking

welcome-back to the world.

Tonight’s weekly FLAMP is a simple file; no file manipulation exercise.

Again, please send only one message during Traffic round. We love radio

related traffic and personal station items too, but our first priority

is traffic practice and we want to give all Ops the opportunity to TX/RX

each week. If you have more practice traffic, please hold the 2nd msg

until after Comments. We’ll try to accomodate you then or if the net is

long, you can send it after closing. Stations often stay on freq to QSO,

experiment, resolve issues, etc, after the net.

Weekly Net Report usually posted next day

The Las Vegas Police Department’s deployment of the Secured Communications messaging platform at the third presidential debate at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in October turned into a launch pad for the new system. It was used during the New Year’s Eve festivities and is a daily tool now for dispatch.

The system allows encrypted messaging of text, video and images to multiple groups and enables law enforcement to avoid the pitfalls of

one-to-one radio communication that can stall a response during a critical time.
