Very noisy band tonight. Ken K7IFG brought a book of 5 for Brad WA7HHE. Two files were passed in FLAMP and the REPORT rounds went well. My Linux FLDIGI choked by refusing to accept TX buffer key entry. I had to reboot. Nice to have Mindy W7ZAP close by so the net quickly knows what’s up with NCS. Odd. I expected the Linux version to be more stable than Win fldigi, but it doesn’t seem to be the case. It froze up last week too. Likely some obscure Op error in the end. I”m really a Linux newbie. I’ve sorted out most of my new keyboard issues, but still have some key combination triggering the Announcement macro.

Last week I’d asked Don WA6NBG to spend a few minutes at our old frequency tonight to catch any members that didn’t get the frequency change. I was supposed to remind him yesterday, but forgot. Then tonight, Jim WA6JIM relayed Don in as monitoring, so I asked Howard KB6NN to QSY to 3.595 and see if anyone was there. Of course, Don was there as agreed. Thanks to Don and Howard for checking the old frequency.

I see some stations are already using the Pre-TX tone tonight. It will take me a while to get the hang of sending the tone by macro first. I do a lot of Txing during the net and it will take some additional thinking and focus for me to incorporate this tip. I hope you won’t find it too difficult. It does make a difference.

We’re doing well with FLAMP REPORTs. Using this feature in a roundtable is slow, but good practice. Our method requires focus and attention. For normal traffic handling it would quickly ennable two stations to complete the transfer. At times, we’ll ask a CONFIRMED station to RELAY the fills when that station is better located.

Dave WB0KGN checked in from Le Sueur, MN during comment round, but I couldn’t connect to confirm. Ken K7IFG relayed him later. I think QSB likely got him. It’s a long haul to Minnesota.

Mindy’s having difficulty with her doublet. We usually copy most stations similarly, but lately her antenna is not performing as well as usual Time for a closer inspection.

Thanks for participating it the net tonight. Give the pre-TX tone a try this week while you’re working digital modes and see what you think. Hope to see you next Tuesday evening on 3.5825 @ 0230z.

Save the ‘pretone.b2s’ file in tonight’s traffic. It outlines a
simple scheme to reduce digital doubling. It works. Give it a go.

When there’s too much traffic to wrap in an hour we’ll split the
group after Announcements and general interest bulletins. Jaye
KE6SLS or Ken K7IFG will take half the group to another frequency
and both groups will continue with traffic and comment rounds.
Groups will conclude independantly. Next big net we’ll try it.

Checking in late? Send your CALLSIGN during a lull or print it
on the waterfall. Leaving early? Send NCS a 73. TU < K7KY Before RSID: <<2016-03-23T02:49Z MFSK-32 @ 14070000+1499>>

Tonight I’m going to send traffic first and then begin the rotation. I want you to have this file so you can read it during idle moments, if you have any. I usually don’t. This
Tip from Ken K7IFG and Bob W7GBB will save us some doubles, I think…

K7KY 20162203235451

:mg:987 TIP: REDUCE DIGITAL DOUBLING
Ken K7IFG suggests enabling a brief pre-TX TONE that preceeds TXID and alert others that you are sending . Bob W7GBB further suggests sending this TONE manually
instead of enabling it for every TX. Bob’s method provides a moment after the TONE and before you send to listen/look for signals and prevent doubling.

Both methods notify others that you are sending. Sending the tone by macro give you an opportunity to hold if you detect a signal after your TONE. The 1.5sec tone can be
sent by macro using the tag. Sending a TONE by macro bypasses settings in Config/ID/RsID. Set Pre-Signal Tone to 0.0 if you are using in a macro
. No need to send the tone twice.

Sending the tone by macro gives the best chance of avoiding doubles When the TONE stops you have a moment to look and listen for signals before sending. The brief
TONE signals your intention to transmit immediately. Using this method, we can reduce doubling.

any FLAMP traffic tonight although I see it in the receive buffer. FLMSG however on those sent only via FLMSG does open fine with only one checksum error in the bunch!

Shortwave Radiogram transmits digital text and images on an analog shortwave broadcast transmitter. The program is produced and presented by Dr. Kim Andrew Elliott KD9XB. Shortwave Radiogram continues VOA Radiogram's tradition testing new modes and is an interesting source for Digital Ops wishing to practice more with FLDIGI & FLAMP.
