Today’s events ran wildly off our intended course. Doug’s surgery appointment advanced suddenly; COVID 19 takes precedence over ongoing medical procedures. It was today or next month, an unacceptable delay. Surgery on his right arm makes typing difficult, but he should be back up to speed next week. We’ll return to our unusual net format then with the NBEMS Exercise & Traffic Round between Announcements and Comments. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

I had an Operator error during check-in with my antenna… I only switched 2 of the 4 switches, leaving me transmitting on my coax. I copied many of the ck-in stations, but they didn’t hear me. I emailed Craig KD7CL following the net and asked if he copied my reply when he checked-in and he said, “Got your reply and seemed strong”.  Also, Darrell W6ADZ wrote saying he copied me once before I figured out what was wrong and corrected it. You don’t always need a perfect antenna to get out, but it sure helps!

A few weeks ago John KS6M emailed with a suggestion to use a 1×1 white pixel and list missed images along with those received. Great suggestion John, it looks better and makes processing much easier. We had to wait a few weeks to try it out, as luck would have it, everyone copied both images 100% until last tonight.

Announcements

Change of plan: We’ll have one more Summer Sked session tonight; Doug had a minor surgery today and isn’t feeling too chipper. He had the NBEMS Exercise ready to go. There’s just the Comment Round tonight. Next week will return to normal operations including the after-net Monitor’s Session. Thanks for understanding.

Had an issue w/our antenna switcher… I din’t switch all 4 switches… only 2 which meant I copied everyone on my coax. Of course no one was hearing me. I can add that to my mental data bank for future problem solving. All good now :-)

On to the COMMENT round and we begin with Gene W1EEP < W7ZAP

W7ZAP W1EEP NICE RECOVERY GLAD I GOT YOUR EMAIL AND WE CAN AT LEAST GET THE INFO WE NEED YOU GUYS ARE GREAT IN ADVERSE CONDITION HATS OFF TO YOU WAS 29 DEGREES HERE THIS MORNING FALL IS HERE IN PINE VALLEY 73’S TO ALL

NCS < WB7EUX – Mindy, that was the fastest turnaround on an image comment I have ever witnessed. Talk about multi-tasking. Bravo! Hope we all enjoy the Autumnal Equinox today. We’re enjoying a pleasant hop back and forth between early fall and late summer this week with chilly temps at night and highs in the 70s during the day. Nice to have smoke free views again. All the best and thanks for the net! 73 de WB7EUX

I dont relpy to all the 1st image emails, but every once in a while I do… Thanks for your support!

Stay safe. 73 to all. W6DLW.

Seems like Fall is here and a nice change to all who suffered fires and/or smoke. Nice to see the fall colors :-)

:mg:1102 CDC data 2020-2021:
As of 9/8/2021 the total number of deaths for children age 0-17 from Covid-19 was 412. The total for all deaths in children for same time period was 55,352. Which surprised me! Although no one wants to lose any child or grandchild at least from Covid it’s chance is 0.0074%. Based on this data.

An example of another illness is RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) usually occurs in the fall and winter. It affects 2+ million infants per year and it’s mortality rate is 0.5-1.7% depending the infants health, comorbidites, etc.

Thought I’d report the facts just in case, since the news is reporting an increase in the number of children being positive for Covid-19. I think the vaccines are allowed in 12-17 age now.

https://www.medicinenet.com/what_is_the_mortality_rate_of_rsv_in_babies/article.htm

You might also be interested to know that the CDC breaks down the total Covid-19 deaths of 658,754 as 90% underlying cause of death and 10% as a contributing cause of death. Makes you wonder about the real total.

W7ZAP de KE6SLS do u have time for a tech question?

Sure, let’s try < W7ZAP

Tu.

I wondered why my log wasn’t filling out the fields on my net yesterday. To may alarm, and fear, I found there was nothing in my log. I’ve lost over 12 years of log some how. Have you heard of anyone else suffering from this? I REALLY am just about sick over it.

btu

That’s a big loss… sri to hear that. And no, never heard of or had that issue. Did you give urs a specific name or just use the generic log from FLDIGI? I have mine named. BTU

I did use the generic log from FLDIGI. I’ll try to start some searches. I have a back up, but I will still loose all those amazing dx contacts I made since the HEX beam install this past July :( yeah, just about sick over it.

At least u hv a backup. Always a bummer to loose data. Makes me think to do a backup asap!! I’m lazy about those. I hv the ORCA website on a regular backup since we last had an issue there, but my own laptop, not so good at backups and Im always so sad when I loose data. Good luck w/ur search, hope something turns up! BTU < W7ZAP

W7ZAP de KE6SLS fb Mindy. Hopefully I can stumble onto some help … I’ll for sure let you guys know if I find something. This could cause lots of our users on ORCA net some un-needed grief!

Okay, will hope it’s cooler there than here. 79 in shack tonight, door open, big fan blowing out the hot air outside … :)
