Band condx were much better than usual tonight. DST ‘Spring Forward’ is on the horizon with more evening daylight and diminished propagation for distant stations. It’s unusual for us to copy Richard KK6RJR in Bakersfield,CA perfectly on both antennas. Signals from Missouri were solid tonight too. In the NBEMS Exercise, John KS6M in Oakland,CA was the only station to CONFIRM the file in one pass of PSK-250R. He had a pipeline to Don KJ7VGV/NCS in Reno,NV.

Thanks to Don for conducting tonight’s Exercise. He usually conducts NBEMS Exercises on the 1st Tuesday every other month, but relieved Mindy W7ZAP tonight for Valentine’s Day. Don and Bruno KG7VVN alternate conducting 1st Tuesday Exercises. Consider learning to conduct NBEMS Exercises yourself. Beside running occasional Exercises on ORCA, you can conduct them for local EMCOMM colleagues. Conducting these Exercises involves most of the basic NCS tasks. Your emergency net digital skills will increase. NBEMS Exercises are Macro-driven; it’s a big boost for expanding Macro skills.

Speaking of Macros, on the last Tuesday this month, 28/Feb/23, we’ll work with Complementary Macros in the Comment Round. We’ll use our Path Evaluation Macro and our ID/STOP Macro(< K7KY<RX>). Using two Macros and different FLDIGI features, we’ll send ORCAtest.png and comments in a single transmission. The Path Evaluation Macro and ORCAtest.png are available for download at the website, top of right column: http://orcadigitalnet.com

The Exercise begins w/Path Evaluation Macro. We’re not changing mode, so we don’t need TxID Tags. We’re also leaving the transmitter ON. Remove these Tags, <TXRSID:on>, <@TXRSID:off>, <RX>. Before removing, SAVE a copy so you can restore the Macro. Now, the Macro will ignore TxID and leave transmitter ON.

For comments, use the text-file you normally use with the Comment Macro or a new text file as you like. You can drag’n drop this file into the TX window or Copy/Paste comments from this file into the TX window.

Your ID/Stop Macro will close w/your CALLSIGN and STOP TX.

Sequence: Execute these steps one after another w/o waiting for one to finish; FLDIGI will queue them.
1) Execute Path Macro
2) Drag’n Drop or Copy/Paste comments in TX window
3) Execute ID/STOP Macro

Details:
Experiment with w/transmitter OFF. If it works in FLDIGI, it should work on-air. Try it on-air with a colleague when you’ve sorted it out. Pay attention to spacing btwn words and btwn sentences so content is neat and intuitive. A single blank line nicely separates topics. At end of comment text, add ‘BTN’. Your ID/STOP Macro comes next. Enjoy!

ANNOUNCEMENTS 07/Jan/23

Tonight’s NBEMS traffic-handling Exercise features FLMSG’s ICS-213 form. Don KJ7VGV will conduct the Exercise. Don usually conducts NBEMS Exercise on 1st Tuesdays, every other month. He’s relieving Mindy W7ZAP tonight for Valentines Day. We appreciate it; Mindy doesn’t get many days off.

On the last Tuesday this month, 28/Feb/23, we’ll work with Complementary Macros in the Comment Round. We’ll use our Path Evaluation Macro with a 2nd Macro. We previously called this routine Daisy-chaining. To computer-savvy Ops, daisy-chaining implies that FLDIGI Macros are recursive. FLDIGI Macros cannot call other Macros or themselves.

‘Macro definitions are not recursive, that is; a macro cannot reference another macro or itself.’
FLDIGI User Manual 4.1.24 Ch18, pp281.

Some of our Macros are Complementary; they work with other Macros to complete a single operation. Some Macros, like our Ck-In Macro, START and STOP transmission. Others START transmission and leave TX ON, or only STOP transmission. Complementary Macros work together to complete a task. We’ll provide more specific details about the 28/Feb/23 session in tonight’s Net Report and next session.

NCS < WB7EUX – Thanks for another educational net. Seems like the fldigi gremlin was moving around the network tonight!

Snow and cold in ne Oregon. I’ve been experimenting with fldigi and SITORB rtty weather reports. So far I’ve successfully decoded Pt. Reyes CA, Boston MA, Honolulu HI, and the island of Guam. Also WEFAX from those same locations using fldigi.

I’m ready to go up a ladder tomorrow to the apex of the shop and mount a parabolic refelector and LNA to complete a permanent installation for GOES Weather Satellite reception. I have a Raspberry Pi 4 that will act as the processor for those images and I’ve written a few Python scripts to process the images into mp4 movies of the earth during a 24 hour cycle. Quite fun!

All is well. 73 de WB7EUX

I missed Lamar’s & John’s FLA because FLDigi decided to lock up.  Was able to restore after to failed restarts along with loading my msg into FLAmp!  Grrr..  But I know I would have copied 100% with such good signals tonight.

Gremlins are in full force tonight! 😄

Tonight, just before net, I swept 75/80m and found W1AW/6 calling CQ! I only learned about this event this afternoon thanks to a email that was forwarded to me.  I might work it myself!

Talked to my brother and told him I thought we might be done with the hard freezes.  Will, tonight we’re headed for another bout of hard freezes.  The portable heater will not be stowed just yet!

Snow and wrecks closed all of our highways into/out of Humboldt. Was a perfect day to hunker down.

Oh yeah, almost forgot.  Worked kb7vx today.  He finally got winlink working after an “upgrade” of the software.  Asked me to say hello to the ORCA gang for him.

Stay well, practice often, and make sure to have some fun doing it!

ORCA NCS< Mindy/Doug, Thanks for doing the net.  Don, thanks for the fun ecxercise.  It snowed for about 12 hours today. Currently, not snowing at this time but more expected overnight. Here at my QTH we have about 6 plus inches. As you may be aware the RCARC monthly meeting meeting was canceld for the second consecutive month due to snow. But safety first always for our members. Curreent temp 18 dregrees and dropping. Not much else to pass on.  Nice to see everyone on the waterfall.  Stay safe. 73

My poor dog Gumball had surgery today and is not a happy camper but for every groan she gets food and eats it w/o any problem. I’m hoping after giving some meds she can sleep all night. TU Doug.  I think Randy is asking how he can FIND his images.   On FLDigi, click on File, FOLDERS
then scroll down to IMAGES.   There is where his copy of the received image files will be.

If he is savvy with his file mangler, he should be able to scroll all the way down and the last two images will be the ORCA beginning image and ending image.

just my 2 cents.

BTN and I’ll send in my image report via Email.   73 and enjoy
