Nuts! I lost two paragraphs of Net Report on the clipboard. I don’t remember what I said. Mindy was editing noise out of the log and I lost the text while merging the docs. Anyway, nice net as usual. The band was poor a little before the net for phone, but OK for digital. I did have difficulty copying Linda KG7PBX in UT. Some due to doubling, I think.

During check-in, I missed ‘in&out’ on two of three stations tonight. Mindy runs the weekly FLAMP practice session and works from her own list. She had all the in&out’s correct, but I interrupted her, thinking she was skipping stations. Digital NCS can be challenging. I work with numerous apps open on the desktop and I’m sometimes in an editor or callsign lookup app while others are sending. Occasionally, I ask Mindy, who is sending?, but I’m not looking at fldigi and miss the message. Or, I’m in the macro editor, changing callsign buttons, or revising the rotation list.

I’m not complaining. I really appreciate this opportunity to learn and practice digital NCS. I couldn’t do it w/o you.

Traffic included two images tonight. Images make interesting traffic and practicing the process is important. There may be lots of images sent in emergencies. Nice to include them in QSOs too. Ralph WB6SDR related a story of the value of a 3D satellite image of a wildfire to the Incident Commander on the fireground. A simple image may be better than a detailed verbal description.

You can also send the b/w logo we use for signal evaluation. I TX this image every net, but seldom decode myself. You can copy and save the image for future TX.

Nice to see members working together on 3.581 prior to net. Mindy & I usually test on Tues afternoons and it’s not unusual to have ORCA members pop in. I wouldn’t think 5w would be working UT on 80m in the afternoon, but there it is with digital. Nice to have more UT stations working with us. Welcome, Ken KR7KR in Cedar City,UT and Jack KG7VEJ in Kanarraville,UT.

We want to try a brief check-in net for daytime digital work. We do need to know where we can work in an emergency. 7.122 was our original 40m alternate. It would be good to include a UT, WA,& CenCA station. We’ll call a daytime net on Saturday Sept 17th @ 2000z/1300p, 7.122 & 3.581, MFSK-32. We’ll begin on 40m and then try 80m. If you don’t hear us on 40m, we’ll be on 80m in a few minutes. It will be a short net. Mark your calendar and see if you can work us in the daytime on 40/80m.

Thanks for working with us tonight. I hope to see you all again next Tuesday evening.

ORCA Announcements 06/sep/16

Last week’s FLAMP/Edit exercise went quite well. If you missed it, we’ll do it again

soon. It adds a few elements of digital traffic exchange we’ve not practiced. You can

find your FLAMP files quickly using the ‘FOLDERS’ tab on the upper left ‘FILE’ menu

on the FLAMP RX page.

The exercise went very quickly, actually. Everyone completed the exercise, even though

those who missed the previous net had to sort it out on the fly during the net. Quite a

testament to the digital skills of ORCA Ops. We can do this exercise once a month or on

any sked you like. We can replace the weekly FLAMP practice exercise with the Edit/Save

exercise once or twice a month to keep things interesting.

Tonight, we’re back to our normal routine with the weekly FLAMP practice message by

Mindy W7ZAP just prior to the Traffic round.

Tonight, the Humboldt Co,CA Ops are @ ARC meetings. If you would like to TX brief

bulletins from your local NBEMS or ARC groups, let me know.

Weekly Net Report/Log usually posted by Wednesday @: orcadigitalnet.com/reports/

If you need to leave early, please check-out. < K7KY

Sometimes if the Op Mode is set wrong the S/N won’t display, therefore, always check the setup because sometimes things change.

I got a clear ORCA image and ORCA-007.b2s message fine.
