Another small and easy net. The band was not bad for winter conditions and when signals began to fade, we dropped to MFSK-16. That worked well for the remainder
of the net. Following the net, Jaye KE6SLS and I completed the bulletin Ken K7IFG
sent before the net began. Rick N6IET checked in&out tonight. I try to remember to
call the monitoring stations for comments after we complete our traffic and comment
rounds. Sometimes, they’re still with us and have questions or comments.

Tonight we changed our FLAMP REPORT process. Usually, we make our REPORTs
in order w/o NCS prompt, but winter conditions sometimes drop stations and then we
get stuck waiting for a station that’s lost contact. For now, I’ll call each station for a
REPORT, just like regular traffic rotation. It won’t add much time and will eliminate waiting for missing stations.

Our nets are still small and that’s a good thing for experimenting with various modes
and having things move along briskly. If the nets should get to large for efficiency, we
can split the group with some moving down freq with one of our veteran Ops as NCS.

We are doing very well with FLAMP traffic. Most of our members have in installed.
We will really appreciate FLAMP if we have to pass large messages under poor band
Conditions. I would like to experiment with the RELAY mode when most Ops have it
configured and working.

Checking in late is no problem. Actually, it’s good for the net, at least for NCS. Late
check-ins keep me on my toes. When I’m busy, it’s easy to forget about stations trying
to get in. You don’t have to wait for a break if you know how to print your callsign on the waterfall as John NX6DX did this evening. He printed NX6DX around 0800 on the waterfall while another station was sending. I can see the video print while decoding another station. I try to leave pauses between x-missions, but I sometimes forget.
Check-in when you can and check-out when you leave so we don’t hunt around for you
during rotations.

Late check in? < K7KY ORCA DIGITAL NET, Announcements, 29/Dec/15 NOTE - CHANGE - FLAMP REPORT ROUTINE: For FLAMP traffic, we interrupt the directed traffic round for a single round of FLAMP REPORTs. NCS will call for your REPORT. If you're not running FLAMP, answer 'NO FLAMP'. Originator resends missing blocks. Only one REPORT round. Then, we continue directed traffic rotation. Ops still missing blocks can fill after net. If you can't copy NCS or other stations, you can try changing modes. Please select the fastest mode that conditions will support. Olivia should be our last resort; it's very slow. When MFSK-32 is not working, try MFSK-16 next. It may be sufficient to maintain contact. Keep your rotation list handy. We occasionally have monitoring stations that check 'in & out'. They are not called during rotations. The ORCA DIGITAL NET website is unavailable while we transition to a new provider, but we're making progress and email is working. Checking in late? Send your CALLSIGN during a lull or print it nearby on the waterfall. Have to leave early? Check-out with NCS so we don't search for you during rotation. Comments or questions before traffic round? Come now. < K7KY Any questions about our FLAMP process? I'm going to call each station for flamp REPORTs... Sometimes the next station cannot hear and we get stuck waiting... We'll give prompting a try and see how it goes... Any questions? < K7KY OK we'll turn it over to Jaye KE6SLS for traffic or keyboard.... < K7KY Before RSID: <<2015-12-30T03:42Z MFSK-32 @ 1500>>

Shortwave Radiogram transmits digital text and images on an analog shortwave broadcast transmitter. The program is produced and presented by Dr. Kim Andrew Elliott KD9XB. Shortwave Radiogram continues VOA Radiogram's tradition testing new modes and is an interesting source for Digital Ops wishing to practice more with FLDIGI & FLAMP.
