Tonight, band problems were more about people than WX. The 3.955 neighborhood was crowded and some neighbors were just too close to ignore. And, they weren’t inclined to ignore us. I don’t blame them. We moved to 3.940 and David NX6D stayed behind awhile in case we missed someone. We did well on 3.595 for half an hour or so and then it faded quickly. We made a final round of comments by keyboard. At the end, there was only NX6D, K7IFG, W7ZAP, & K7KY remaining. Although it didn’t occur to me at the time, we may have been able to close in voice on 40m.
We returned to our earlier digital routine of NCS prompting each station in order. It does take a bit more time, but I think it helps keep order when some stations are not copying well. Jim KA6JIM and Don WA6NBG have done well keeping Howard KB6NN engaged. Winter band doesn’t favor Howard. Relaying weaker stations is good practice and flamp has a digipeater feature we’ll explore in the future.
Jaye asked a couple questions that we would have addressed in comment roundtable, but we didn’t get to have a discussion after a round of copy reports. Jaye asked if flamp automatically saves messages. No. You have to press SAVE. And, he asked about the new macros. I didn’t include Jaye in the macro evaluation as I’m working with Win-fldigi. I believe the macro files are the same in both applications, but I’m not sure. Anyway, Dave will soon update the other supported OSs and everyone can use the macros. I’ll send everyone the macros and a link to Win-fldigi v3.22.06.01
The digital check-in demo went well and we should be able to check-in quickly this way. I can see callsigns at three places on the waterfall. Stations w/o this capability can use the tune button to put a carrier on the waterfall and I can bring them in. I’ll have to set the waterfall to SLOW and keep an eye out for late stations. I’m sometimes busy with other things and not always watching signals.
David finds that RXRSID can be a disturbing. I had no problems with it myself. It does print the previous mode in the receive window each time it hears mode ID, but it’s not moving the curser, only confirming reception of mode ID in print. The print notice in the RX window can be disabled. We need to explore the manual to find out if RXRSID has an adjustable threshold.
Each station transmitting with LOCK on is what keeps our signals at 1500. LOCK is included in some of my transmit macros. That way, it’s almost always on.
I did get the net log this week. Although fldigi crashed and I lost the first portion of the log, Mindy had it and I pasted both logs together. I’m sometimes surprised to read things I don’t remember from the net. The log is attached. Net Reports and Net Logs will all be available and archived on the website.
The website is very close. We resolved some sticky programming issues today and should finish soon, maybe this week. Web development plays second fiddle to Mindy’s CW Academy homework.
Thanks for making the net useful and engaging. Hope to see you next Tues evening. 73 Doug K7KY

okay, I just qro to 40 watts. Did not copy anything from Danon kj6upe here, did not copy
nor hear
anything from Howard kb6nn here. Very high noise floor here with AC power noise
and I am not using the noise
cancel machine here on digi modes.
Okay, Here’s a question for the group. Regarding FLamp, if I send a file and another
station is able to copy
that file, is it automatically saved somewhere on the other persons hard drive for later
viewing?
I want to complement you two for using the Video ID function. I will assume you are now
using a very asome cool

:mg:631 An article about radio amateur Phil Crump M0DNY describes how he used
3D printing to build an alternati
ve power supply solution for his camera for operation at high-altitudes
Phil is a Volunteer RF Engineering Consultant for Southampton Universitys UOS3
Cubesat Project. He wanted to
use his Canon SD1000 camera for high-altitude balloon flights but found the low
temperatures reduced the
lifetime of the camera battery to just 34 minutes.
With the help of So Make It, a Maker and Hackerspace in Southampton he was able to
develop a solution.

Yes. I need some time to tune my antenna before the net starts. I failed to do that this
time and sent
transmissions way off the antenna sweet spot. You probalby only got about 10 watts or
so.
I prefer running the net in digital only — copy here has been excellent, better than voice .
I turned RXid off as it pops up so often it is a distraction and delays my work. We did a
good job of staying
on the center freq so i don’t think we need it, unless someone wants to use another
mode. This may just be me
complaiing, so don’t take this comment too seriously.
I had trouble copying the message that followed KB6NN, or the second from that
station — not sure. it was
below the noise level and I could not decode it. 100% copy on all other transmissions.
I had to adjust Squelch levels several times to keep the junk out of the receive window.
Signal strength
vaires quite a bit from station to station. Perhaps it would be best for me to set the
squelch low and let the
junk accumulate. Not sure.
Back to net.
