Nice to be back to our usual net format tonight. Band condx were sufficient for good digital communications. A relatively small net tonight made returning to NCS duty a bit easier. Mindy W7ZAP began the FLAMP exercise in MFSK-64 and filled with MFSK-32 and a relay. Most stations CONFIRMED the MFSK-64 TX w/o fill.
Again tonight, I had difficulty copying Larry N7SND at ck-in. I saw ‘…SND’ on the WF, but was unable to contact him thereafter. This has happened a few times now. I don’t know enough to understand why. He’s in UT and coming further than most OCRA Ops, but we have other stations near Larry that connect well. Pat KA7PAT in Riverton,OR returned tonight, checking in&out. Steve K6ETA was also in&out tonight. I hope he’s not still working on the BMW headgasket )-:
We had a few more doubles than usual tonight, but sorted them out easily. Remember, when you ck in&out I list you as monitoring and don’t engage you unless you RECHECK. Also, when you ck-in QRU, I log you as active in all but the Traffic round.
IN&OUT = on the roster but checked out early, monitoring, not participating
RECHECK = returning to net after checking out, send ‘CALLSIGN RECHECK’ btwn TX’s or VideoID @ 900 or 2000wf when NCS is RX
QRU = no Traffic, but participating in other net activities
DIRECTED NET = if you want my attention, send your callsign btwn TX’s, or print it on WF when I’m RX.
CHECK-OUT = you can leave the net at anytime, please check out so we don’t waste time looking for you
VideoID prints your call on the waterfall; a very useful feature for digital check-in and getting NCS attention during a busy net. Some Ops check-in with VideoID every week. There’s a page on our website describing how to print your callsign on the waterfall with VideoID. Also, see the FLDIGI Manual. You can easily check into the net or recheck using VideoID.
Print your ID @ 900 or 2000wf, not 1500. A big advantage of using VideoID is contacting NCS w/o tying up the working frequency. I can copy a station on 1500 and note your ID on the WF simultaneously. Follow the website config’ instructions. Use LARGE text oriented HORIZONTALLY. Horizontal text remains visible longest. And remember, depending on condx, VideoID may not print as clearly as you see at home. If I don’t call you, send it again. I am usually busiest at check-in and can miss VideoID’s, but Mindy is watching too and usually catches those I miss.
Thanks for being patient with our distraction by the nearby Chetco Bar Fire. We hope we will be getting back to normal soon. Thanks for coming tonight and we look forward to working with you next Tuesday evening.

ORCA ANNOUNCEMENTS 12 September 2017
Thanks for your patience and support while we deal with the Chetco
Bar Fire. Two fire fronts are 5mi from here, but holding. Threat is
diminishing daily. W/o adverse wx, we will begin bringing our stuff
back home later this week. We reassembled Mindy’s digital station
last night. We’re sleeping better.
Tonight’s Optional FLAMP exercise distributes ‘ex37.txt’, an FLMSG/FLAMP
exercise using the BLANK form. Complete the exercise instructions and
send the file to NCS during TRAFFIC using FLAMP, or send your own
practice traffic, or QRU.
If you change mode for your traffic, remember to activate TxID so all
stations follow automatically.
