Hey, gang.  Great net!  Really, for the first time in 3mos, we did well.  You all have a good grip on digital protocols.  It’s good to be back.  It was fun.  I made a couple mistakes, but nothing serious.  Although missing Howard in rotation borders on serious.

I have NCS fairly well organized, but I’ve been away for awhile and my attention was totally absorbed. Sometimes I’m trying to record my reception notes and stay ahead of the net at the same time.  I’ve asked Dave W1HKJ, the fldigi programmer, to enable more rows of macros on screen at once.  I use two sets of 40 macros for the net.  It’s unhandy to keep rolling over the top row and I sometimes forget where the invisible macros are.  Dave said he could do this, but it would have to wait until he is working on the UI.

Howard KB6NN was not copying me at check-in, but the band improved and we eventually had good copy. Nick KI6RIT in

Ukiah,CA has to drive a couple miles to the Sheriff’s EOC to exercise the equipment and check-in.  Good to hear Nick again.

We had two visitors tonight.  Jim AJ2K in Hillsboro,OR.  He belongs to the Oregon Digital Net, Friday 1830p 3.5795, 1000wf, PSK-31. Daylight saving may change the time.   Roger K0YY in Evergreen,CO checked-in just before closing.  I think Roger is our most distant station.

Ken K7IFG sent traffic in FLAMP and the following REPORT rotation went perfectly.  Every REPORT was CONFIRMED.  Ken is usually at 50w with a clean signal. Good to see we’ve come up to speed with FLAMP.  I think we’ll see a lot more FLAMP traffic.

I hear the Humboldt Ops are doing some training with NST radiogram traffic.  We should consider more formal traffic handling here too.  We have progressed from simple keyboarding to flmsg traffic and flamp protocol. This winter, I’d like to explore more formal traffic handling.  Not thinking to become an emergency traffic net, but to gain experience and practice in all forms of digital traffic.  Most of the regular Ops on this net are well qualified to pass digital traffic in time of need.  Although we are not an emergency net, I think we would do a credible job if recruited.

I would like to hear what you would like to learn/practice on the net. Also, any changes or additions to net routines you would like to try.  Please email me or bring it up on Tuesday evening.    Thanks for working with us.  73 Doug K7KY Brookings,OR

ORCA DIGITAL NET,  Announcements, 3/Nov/15

Welcome back to our old digtal friends and maybe some new stations too.

For our first net in 3mos, a quick round of comments before  traffic will be useful.

There may be some new Ops among us.  It’s an opportunity to say hello and learn about

the other stations.  Please include your name, qth, station, pwr, with your comments.

At Check-in: Send CALLSIGN only for FLMSG TRAFFIC or KBD.

MONITOR only stations send CALLSIGN MON.  You will only be called for ‘comment’ round.

FLAMP is enjoying widespread use and I encourage you to have it configured and running.

It’s good for large files and poor conditions, but doesn’t open automatically.  FLDIGI can be

configured to start FLAMP at startup. Previously, about 15% of our traffic was in FLAMP.

For FLAMP traffic, we interrupt traffic round for a single round of FLAMP REPORTs.

Next Op after Xmitter sends REPORT w/o NCS prompt. All Ops REPORT w/o prompt.

Xmitter sends one fill for missing blocks. No more fills until after net.

Ken K7IFG is runing a digital bulletin broadcast prior to Friday’s OREGON DIGITAL NET.

I would like to try this here too.  It would be a good opportunity to tune up and check our

equipment prior to the net and we could present Amateur/ORCA related bulletins.Have to leave early? Check-out with NCS so we don’t search for you during rotation.

GE Nick KI6RIT & Ken K7IFG.  Good to see you back to digital netting…  Not too many of us tonight, but most of the Humboldt

Ops are in meetings tonight.  I was wondering if the time off would be the end of the net, but it looks like it will keep going. I hope so., It’s too much fun… Let’s

do a quick comment round and then we’ll do a round of traffic.   Over to Nick.. <  K7KY

Nice to be getting back to FLDIGI after a nice break. Doug and I completed

numerous chores around or little homestead that needed to be done (with a few

still lingering). Got back into JT-65, but this time with WSJT-X. What fun!

Finally got around to making an eQSL card and having lots of contacts. I found

this mode to be kind of addicting :-) Also found the websites www.HamSpots.net

and www.pskreporter.info for viewing where other digital stations are hearing

  1. Wow, what a tool for understanding propagation. I think I’ll be able to

really have fun with this when I don’t feel like I’m neglecting other

responsibilities. It’s perfect for a rainy weekend. Eagerly looking forward to

winter storms and better HF propagation!

Getting ready to resume the ORCA DIGITAL NET, Doug and I swept out the cobwebs

from our stations and downloaded a new version of FLDIGI. Also put AndFLmsg

(Android FLmsg) on our tablets and tried that out too. What a nice color scheme

the app has compared to it’s big brother. After all these years of using FLDIGI

and making macros, we’d never modified the UI. We spent a few days changing the

colors of the UI and it’s like having a whole new program! Dave and the other

programmer guys really give you a lot of access to tweak the program. Turns out

that’s fun too.

Hope to learn more FLDIGI skills. It’s such a robust program. I’m hoping to

learn more about FSQ modes… maybe Ken K7IFG will teach us a thing or two about

that down the road.

OK, that was a long hello! Glad to be back!

:s1:11 Nick KI6RIT

:mg:423 Long time no hear! :) Good to see the net is back in swing.

The setting I changed in regards to the RSID distraction is Configure -> IDs -> RsID -> uncheck “Searches Passband”. It says it limits the search to +/- 200 Hz

when unchecked, so that should do it…

I tried checking in a couple of times during the off-season, but didn’t hear anyone else. Since this station isn’t at my house, I stopped visiting until tonight.
