This was an unusual net tonight. Our usual NCS, Doug K7KY, was unfortunately sidelined due to an injury to his hand. When Doug and I realized I would need to fill in, we broke it down into modules and started practicing with me running the net. By the time ‘net night’ arrived, it felt the same as my practice and I was calm and comfortable. I already have experience with the weekly FLAMP exercise, so the other portions were not overwhelming. It was reassuring to have Doug watching from his station and coaching me along where needed. I have areas where I’d like to build upon and improve, so the next 5 weeks will be a fun challenge. I wish Doug a speedy recovery back to his NCS position!

I couldn’t have asked for a peachier net for my first time out. Five stations for the FLAMP round, five in&out stations and decent band condx to boot! Only one fill needed for the FLAMP round which was filled easily by switching modes to MFSK-16 (thanks for the suggestion, Doug!). We also had 2 new stations check in with us from Vancouver, WA, Tom WB7TZD and Charles W5CLE. Thanks to all the members for your focus and attention. That’s what made everything flow so smoothly.  Thanks for working with us again tonight.

Announcements:

I’ll be replacing Doug K7KY as NCS for the next 6 weeks. Doug had an
unfortunate accident while inflating a tire for our handtruck; it blew up
along with the plastic rim almost cutting off his fingertip. Fortunately
he was wearing garden gloves, the surgeon said it may have saved his
fingertip. He’ll be coaching me during the net, but not likely to be typing
anytime soon :-(

Tonight’s weekly FLAMP exercise distributes ‘ex13.txt’, another optional
file-manipulation/FLAMP exercise. Using FLAMP, return your result to NCS
during Traffic Round. Or send your own practice message, or QRU.

Repeat of last week’s Announcements:
Traffic Round:
For FLAMP msgs in the Traffic round, Only NCS will REPORT/fill. I may ask
you to RELAY if I can’t fill from sender. No more roundtable of FLAMP REPORTS
in Traffic round. Roundtable REPORT/fill is now provided in the weekly FLAMP
exercise.

Most of us now use pre-tone before TX.  We’ve almost eliminated doubles.

Weekly Net Report posted as soon as I can…
