Wow. Tough band condx tonight. We did well anyway. Not all stations copied 100%, but we did manage to pass most of our practice traffic. In an emergency, we could have changed modes and/or used relays to complete some messages. Poor band condx are frustrating, but actually good for developing broader skills.

Have you noticed the geographical changes in our net? Lot’s of stations in UT these days. Three years ago we only worked two adjacent counties in OR & CA. Now, we have stations scattered around western US. I’ve added QTH to the roster to help evaluate signals and condx. It will also help when we need to relay. I’m happy to be heard in UT with only 35w during winter.

Nice to have NBEMS Ops participating. They’re usually already familiar with the three apps we use most and are handy with FLAMP REPORTs. FLAMP traffic takes the most time during net. Working FLAMP REPORTs in the roundtable setting is cumbersome, but usually goes quickly when two stations are working together. If you have any ideas to improve our REPORT routine, let me know.

Feedback regarding website content is welcome. Sometimes, descriptions and directions can be improved, but need another perspective. You may see something that can be reworded for clarity or something not addressed at all. The website is intended to describe the net and make it easy to join.

Late check-ins had a difficult time getting my attention tonight. Sorry about that. I intend to leave enough time between some exchanges for rechecks and check-ins, but I do forget this when I get busy. I’m often doing some kind of housekeeping while traffic is flowing and I’m not the best multi-tasker. Yet. I’m working on it. Running the net has been a super learning experience for me.

Jaye KE6SLS is our NCS/alt and he’s NCS for the Humboldt Digital Emergency Net on Monday evenings at: 2005p/0405z, 3.582, +1200, MFSK-32. Stop by and say Hello to Jaye. Ken K7IFG ran bulletins before net tonight. Bob W7BGG copied two of them 100%. Nice to have Ken sending practice traffic prior to net. A great opportunity to leverage digital practice.

Thanks for taking time to work with us tonight. Your participation increases everyones opportunity to practice and develop digital skills. I’ve learned so much on the net. Should we ever be called for emergency communications, I hope to be working with ORCA Ops. I know we’ll do well.

73 Doug K7KY
