* Active Stations called for COMMENTS only

Despite solar winds from an earth-facing corona hole and CME, the net went well.  We didn’t log any of our more distant members tonight, but we had solid Relay support for lite signals. Three Ops managed four Relays.  Brad WA7HHE and John KL7RI each Relayed a ck-in. Tom WB7EUX Relayed a ck-in and Filled missing blocks in the FLAMP Exercise. Nice work all around. At Solar Minimum, Relays are necessary for net operations.

Ck-in and all net operations ran smoothly tonight. Thanks for your attention and focus. While we practice our NBEMS traffic-handling skills, we’re also demonstrating efficient net operations. Incoming Ops are observing and emulating. Thanks for doing your part so well. We now know that many stations that don’t ck-in are copying the net and working the Exercises.  We’re showcasing NBEMS emergency communications and digital netiquette. While preparing to support EMCOMM agencies, we’ve become an efficient network of competent digital Operators. Our primary interest is the home team.

The Macro Creation Exercise is developing nicely.  Tom WB7EUX is assisting us with outlining the Macro Parser. The Parser reads the macro and decides the order of execution.  We don’t need a Programmers grasp of the Parser, just enough of it’s structure to create efficient macros.  Tom knows a lot more about programming than we do; he’ll help us keep it simple.  Macros are a very simple form of programming.

You can experiment with Macros on your own. Try <FILE> for a Comment Round Macro.

1) Create a text file named, ‘comments.txt’. Save it on the Desktop or your usual location for text files.
2) Open the Macro Editor by right clicking any button.
3) Leave the first two lines blank. This makes one blank line b4 printing, separating text from noise.
3) Place Cursor at the beginning of line 3.
4) Highlight <FILE> in the Tag Menu and Click the Green Arrow. Navigate to your new file, ‘comments.txt’ and Click OPEN. The Editor enters the Tag & Argument(file-name/address).
5) Directly after the Tag, add <TX><RX>. Example: <FILE:E:\FL_APPS\Data\0RCAannounce.txt><TX><RX>.
6) Button Label window, enter: ‘Comments @>|’.
7) Click APPLY and Save your Macro.

Open ‘comments.txt’ on your desktop during nets and enter comments as the net evolves. When called for Comments, simply click your ‘Comments’ Macro. SAVE when you add comments so your TX will be current. Next week, Delete and start anew. Contact us 4 assistance.

NBEMS Software: FLDIGI, FLMSG, FLAMP. Dave W1HKJ, Developer

ORCA is a DIRECTED Net, dedicated to learning and developing
digital operating skills and practicing NBEMS traffic handling.
ORCA connects Amateur Operators with common interest in

Practice makes perfect!

New to ORCA? See: http://orcadigitalnet.com/quick-start/

Following check-in NCS sends:
1) Signal evaluation image (30sec)
2) Rotation list
3) Announcements

FLAMP Exercise:
Have FLAMP open. Exercise is brisk, Stay focused.
Monitors can work the Exercise silently and

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Tonight’s FLAMP Exercise distributes the file, ‘ex220.txt’, with two ADVANCED Exercises.
If you complete an ADVANCED Exercise, send it when NCS calls for your Traffic. CONFIRM
100% copy of the primary file before working an ADVANCED Exercise. Monitoring stations
can FILL or CONFIRM Exercise files in the after-net Monitor’s Session.

Our new Macro development Exercises have been well received. So far, they’ve been simple
and easy. We’re working on a more structured agenda. For tonight’s Macro Exercise, feel
free to Cpy&Paste the text string into the Editor. Soon enough we’ll leave the Macro Savana
and trek into the Jungle. You may have noticed that Macros coded differently still produce
similar output. The Macro Editor has a specific agenda for executing Macro Tags (commands).
It follows this agenda, no matter where you place the Tags. Beginning Macro makers should
locate Tags in what seems the logical order of execution.

If you’ve worked PSK31 HF QSOs, you’re probably already tired of Macro QSOs. When some
Ops learn about macros, they totally geek-out, sending all sorts of extraneous data. Macros
are excellent digital comm tools, used intelligently. Configured and applied correctly, they
can be invisible to receivers. We apply the same, Relevant, Brief & Concise criteria to
Macros as all EMCOMM. If it’s not germane, don’t send it.

We relayed for the 20m Digital Net on Saturday and checked in five stations in AZ,CO,NM.
It was a lot of fun and didn’t take long. Joe W7LUX has a super signal out of Flagstaff,AZ.
We need another station or two like Joe’s. Meantime, 20m Digital Net did well for band
condx and limited Relay support. If you can help, message Steve W7WSV at WDN on
Thursday. Sustaining the old SATERN Training Net is worth the effort.

For email notice when the Net Report is posted, write: ncs@orcadigitalnet.com

Thanks for emailing the ORIGINAL Signal Evaluation images to: ncs@orcadigitalnet.com
Test images reflect your path to NCS. (more file location/manipulation practice)

Net Report posted soon: http://orcadigitalnet.com/reports/

ORCA < GE to the net, well if you want to go into the Ransom ware business is appears very profitable. I ran across the following article, and will share another for

WDN that indicates it may not be profitable in the future. Article summary follows:
Colonial Pipeline lost $5 million. The usual daily flow of 100 million gallons of oil was shut off for nearly a week. Panic-buying ran many gas stations dry in the

South-East. State government had to step in to stop soaring gas prices. The pain rippled out to other businesses where employees struggled to find enough fuel to

deliver meals and supply shipments to customers. Some schools cancelled on-site classes.

SHORTWAVE RADIOGRAM

Shortwave Radiogram transmits digital text and images on an analog shortwave broadcast transmitter. The program is produced and presented by Dr. Kim Andrew Elliott KD9XB. Shortwave Radiogram continues VOA Radiogram's tradition testing new modes and is an interesting source for Digital Ops wishing to practice more with FLDIGI & FLAMP.
