Tonight ORCA welcomes a new station, Chris N7GYL in Florence,OR, and welcomes Erik KK6RKY back after a long absence. We experienced a Level 3 Geomagnetic storm earlier in the day and it reduced the number of stations we were able to connect. In addition to the band effecting check-ins, we received email from Brad WA7HHE letting us know Cedar City Ops would be attending an ARC meeting tonight. We later received email from Dave K7DV saying he was on frequency, but heard no signals. Spring/Summer weather usually effects net participation as well. This was the easiest net I’ve run in years.  Doug K7KY’s weekly FLAMP exercise was finished in the blink of an eye! We had only two active stations and both CONFIRMED the 1st pass in PSK250R (220wpm, 250hz).  The net was finished in 40min.

The advantage of starting the net an hour early has faded. The early hour is now creating difficulty for stations that initially saw improvement. Next week, we’ll return to our usual start time of 1930p/0230z. Early Ck-In begins @ 1915p/0215z.

Hope to see you on the WF again soon!
73,
Mindy W7ZAP

ANNOUNCEMENTS 14/MAY/2019

Tonight’s FLAMP exercise distributes the file, ‘ex119.txt’, an FLDIGI/FLMSG/
FLAMP exercise. We continue exploring FLMSG Forms with the Communications
Log, ICS-309. If you complete the optional exercise, send that file to NCS
in the Traffic round tonight or any net.

The advantage of starting the net an hour early is fading. The early hour
is now creating difficulty for many stations. Next week, we’ll return to our
usual start time of 1930p/0230z. Early Ck-In begins @ 1915p/0215z.

Late Check-In:
If you miss Ck-In, no problem. Please monitor until we call for late Ck-Ins.
We already look for Late Ck-Ins b4 the Traffic and Comments rounds and b4
closing. Now, we’ll check before the FLAMP exercise too. Emergency traffic
OK anytime with your CALLSIGN.

Expand your digital net skills:
Use the Ck-In period to expand your digital skills by logging check ins
along with NCS. Shadowing NCS by keeping your own log during ck-in will
increase your ability to monitor and process events during nets. You will
be better prepared for an emergency when NCS duties fall to you. In
emergencies, the first person on the air should take NCS until a more
experienced Op arrives. Your experience working ORCA will go a long way
toward preparing you. You are already successfully working a Directed
digital net.

Net Report posted soon: http://orcadigitalnet.com/reports/
