It was fun to switch NCS rolls with Doug and is something we’ll do regularly. I learn numerous things each time I NCS and I enjoy the process, especially since this is a learning net. Mornings following the net, I always find something I missed during the net while cleaning the logs. I did copy AE5CL Chris in Tucson,AZ, but had my squelch set so low I missed the call in all the noise… thanks to KF7YRS Lee for the relay. Last week Doug modified the format on the roster for the in&out stations by indenting them. This makes it so much easier to see who the active stations are… nice change.

The FLAMP exercise with Doug K7KY saw a number of different modes used; BPSK-250F, MFSK-64, MFSK-32 & MFSK-16… each with success for some stations. Band condx seemed to fluctuate, but OK for most. We had a lot of in&out stations monitoring. Hopefully the monitoring stations are getting familiar with the software & net-flow and will eventually participate. We missed our usual contingent from Cedar City, UT last night as they were attending ARC meetings and our Eureka, CA members are training digital Ops.

Below are images RX from the net:

RX: W1EEP UT
RX: K7KY OR
RX: W7ZAP OR

We appreciate working digital traffic with you all while improving our operating skills. Hope to see you on the WF again soon!
73,
Mindy W7ZAP

ANNOUNCEMENTS 13 March 2018

Tonight’s Optional FLAMP exercise distributes ‘ex60.txt’, a digital
-traffic and file-manipulation exercise. Complete the instructions
and send the file to NCS during TRAFFIC round using FLAMP, or
send your own practice traffic or QRU.

Early Ck-In now starts at the top of the hour, 1900p/0200z.

Reminder: A brief Pre-Tone b4 TX will prevent most doubles. The
tune signal may be audible/visible when signal content is too weak
to decode.

Try this simple net exercise you can practice on any net. During
Ck-In & throughout the net, log CALL & NAME of every station as if
you are NCS. Do this for every net you work; every time. Soon, you
will be good at catching callsigns quickly and you will better know
your digital colleagues.

Net Report posted as soon as we can…

keyboard traffic: flamp not so gud 4 me tonite

True story: In 1968 I was in high school living with my parents in Pittsburgh PA.
We lived in one-half of a duplex and the owner/architech lived in the other half with
his wife and young son. My mother was an MD, and one day the woman from the
other half of the duplex was knocking on our door. She knew my mother was a
doctor and wanted to show my mother her arm, which hurt like hell. My mother
examined the neighbor’s arm and said that she could find nothing wrong with it,
despite the sharp pain being experienced by the neighbor. The next day we
learned that the neighbor’s twin sister in New York had broken her arm at the same
time out neighbor in Pittsburgh had severe arm pain… True story… As they said in
the X-files, the truth is out there…

Interesting story Lee… Twin stories are always intriguiging BREAK

W7ZAP and ORCA de Rick N6IET in Los Angeles (35 watts to a Hustler sideways mobile antenna)
Mindy was 5 to 10 dB at first but faded to -15 to -5 during the exercise, wouldn’t you know?

I’m plagued with intermittent plasma TV QRM from my next door neighbor on this frequency.
It can peak at 10 dB/S9 at times. He’ll be living there for another 18 months. He refused an offer
of $300 to sell me his old TV.

I’m not seeing any evidence (yet) of a solar storm.

73 and to all a good night!

W7ZAP < K7KY Tnx Mindy we’ll see if anyone hears me on ur antenna… nice net Mindy and I want to thank everyone for the exercise tonite FLAMP exercise is demanding and takes a lot of attention to detail it runs fast and includes many of the FLAMP tools we use for traffic handling I hope we can expand the exericse a bit to make it even more like a traffic net or emergency net.. Odd how well I’m printing Rick N6IET, but haven’t heard him well for the CW nets on the weeekend he’s been very lite here and hafd 4 me to cpy… btu < K7KY
