Check-ins: 8
Stations:

KE6SLS in&out
W7ZAP
K7KY NCS

Well, after testing everything before the net, I goofed and called for check-ins before
running the preamble. Thanks for cruising along like it didn’t happen.

The net was really fun tonight. We had two new Ops check-in, Tim K7TRP and Steve AE5ED. Tim is the OREGON DIGITAL NET NCS. ODN meets every Friday at 0400z
2000p on 3579.5, PSK-31. I met Steve while visiting digital nets. Steve called me when
I was having trouble connecting with NCS, I think. Steve is our most distant participant. His antenna is a double bazooka and tonight he ran 100w. It’s really nice to have new digital Ops drop in.

And, nice to have Don WA6NBG in Eureka,CA back with us. He’s been busy and we’ve missed him since resuming the net after summer vacation. Rick N6IET, one of my CW buddies, checked in&out to monitor, but jumped back into the comment round with a detailed summary of net signals. You can count on QRP CW Ops to pay close attention to signal quality. Another Eureka Op, Norman AI6CD checked-in and out to monitor. Near net-end, Don notified us that Norman had lost shore power. I’m so happy our home
power didn’t fail tonight. It’s still quite windy here.

Another in&out tonight was Jaye KE6SLS. Jaye is recovering from a surgical procedure and will be unable to type for a few weeks. I miss Jaye; he always adds a bit of relaxed good humor to the nets. Mindy’s traffic listed some CW contests and events for the weekend. I like to dabble in the weekend CW contests.

Oh, Oh! I was just reviewing the net log and see I missed a late check-in. Jim AJ2K
tried to check-in when I was working with Tim. I noticed a short double, but missed
his callsign. Jim is another digital Op I’ve met while visiting other digital nets. Sorry
to miss you, Jim. Try again and I’ll try to stay alert. I sometimes get a little behind
when my attention is totally used up. Mindy, being only 6’ away, helps me stay on
top of things, mostly.

I regret to hear the passing of Ralph KG6UUF and our thoughts and prayers go out to Sally KG6WWK. Losing your life partner is a sad event in anyone’s life.

A big thank you to everyone who checked in tonight. You’re a great group of digital Ops
and I really enjoy working with you. I hope to see you all next Tuesday evening for
another digital session. If you want to try something new or suggest any changes to the
net, drop me an email. 73 Doug K7KY

ORCA DIGITAL NET, Announcements, 12/Jan/16

Suddenly very windy here! Lights are flickering; I hope we can complete the net. Everything runs solar except my desktop PC. Laptop is configured for
ORCA, but not up to date.

Ken K7IFG usually sends ARRL bulletins in FLAMP a half hour
before ORCA begins. It’s a good opportunity to practice FAAMP.

If you can’t copy NCS or other stations well, you can try changing
modes. Please select the fastest mode that conditions will
support. Olivia is very slow and should be our last resort. When
MFSK-32 is not printing well, try MFSK-16 next. It may be
sufficient to maintain contact.

Weak stations provide an opportunity to practice digital relay.

Here’s a simple mac
{FC13:2}ro for printing your callsign anywhere in the
passband with one
{FC13:3} click. It prints in a few seconds. The macro
does a little hou
{FC13:4}sekeeping, before and after printing. This
example prints a 4
{FC13:5}character callsign on the wf and sets the
modem to MFSK-32. T
{FC13:6}he curser remains in place. You can
also easily change the mod
{FC13:7}em setting.

Here’s all it takes to configure and run this mac

1) FLDIGI topbar menu: Configure/IDs/Video

{FC13:9}: Video Preamble ID
A
{FC13:10}ll left side options: unchecked

{FC13:11} Enter CALLSIGN in window

{FC13:12} Set: CharsRow: One character more than
{FC13:13} CALLSIGN (W1AW = 5)

{FC13:14} SAVE

2) Replace my CALLSIGN with yours
{FC13:15}
Replace with any mode ()

3)
{FC13:16} Right click a blank macro button (or any button you don’t use)
{FC13:17}to open the Macro Editor. Copy the macro below (modified w/Ur
{FC13:18}Call) and paste it into the editor. At the bottom, name the mac
{FC13:19}ro, ‘Print ID’.

Be sure to click APPLY before leaving that bu
{FC13:20}tton or closing the editor.
Back up to the menu bar: File/Macro

SHORTWAVE RADIOGRAM

Shortwave Radiogram transmits digital text and images on an analog shortwave broadcast transmitter. The program is produced and presented by Dr. Kim Andrew Elliott KD9XB. Shortwave Radiogram continues VOA Radiogram's tradition testing new modes and is an interesting source for Digital Ops wishing to practice more with FLDIGI & FLAMP.
