Noisy band again tonight. I’m looking forward to summer and QRP conditions. We didn’t leave anyone out tonight. Adding a few ‘look for late check-in’ prompts in the net outline worked well. Keeping the net open is important; a number of Ops work overlapping nets on Tuesday evening. We didn’t hear any stations in WA or ID tonight, most likely due to condx. Some stations copied well and others had more difficult copy.

Howard KB6NN monitored the net while away from his station in Eureka,CA . Here’s the test image he copied:

Howard has an antenna problem. He’s been difficult to copy the last couple weeks, but his reception looks as good as ever.

Rick N6IET is having difficulty with fldigi on a new Win10 netbook. Others, including me, are having new issues with FLAMP. Although I’ve not updated FLDIDI or FLAMP lately, FLAMP doesn’t decode as it once did. Tonight, it missed all FLAMP traffic. Mindy is running the same versions and having no problems. Thanks to Eric KK6RKY in Trinity Center,CA for tonight’s FLAMP traffic. I like to have at least one FLAMP message; it’s an important app for large files and requires a bit more skill and attention. FLAMP practice is important for efficient digital traffic handling.  I think we do very well with FLAMP traffic in the roundtable setting. Working FLAMP traffic one-to-one is much easier.

I haven’t thought to try Olivia for check-ins on difficult band nights. It occurred to me later we may have picked up more stations with Olivia. Many digital nets conduct net business wholly in Olivia and only use faster modes for traffic. Some even pass traffic in Olivia. While very robust, it’s also very slow. We’ll certainly use it in need. Overall, we do well with MFSK-32.

Reading the net log, you may wonder why I’m talking to stations that haven’t called me. It only appears this way because they’ve printed their callsign on the waterfall. This happens most at check-in time, but may occur throughout the net when Ops use wfID to get my attention.

Although I did a better job of checking in late and visiting stations, I forgot to get back to Jaye KE6SLS for traffic he listed during comments. Hopefully, it will be relevant next week too. Sri abt tt, Jaye.

Looking forward to better band condx this summer. Thanks for working with us tonight. I hope to see you again next Tuesday. 73 Doug K7KY

TU Doug. great sigs from you and Mindy here. Absoluteoy ez copy .. We had an interesting discussion last night/today about the

Monday night net. I learned there was some solar flares making the band pretty bad. But I did copy most signals, but one I could

not, but you could, kb6nn Howard. Normally I hear him very well and 100% digital, but not last night. I did a little google mapping

and found out that both he and w6ies are very near (in bearings) to the full null of my antenna system, plus the trees and earth in the

way. Was quite interesting. But you were able to relay Howard in so that is what this is really all about.

again, p5 on the picture, both you and Mindy are 100% on this end, Eric is about 95% or better and his fill was all I needed for the

info on flamp.

K7KY/ORCA de N6IET in Los Angeles. I’m running 50 watts tonight.

Very poor band conditions for the past several days. Today is no exception. The ORCA logo was mostly noise.

No joy getting fldigi to work with Windows 10 on my new Lenovo laptop. Windows recognizes both the internal sound card and my

SignaLink’s sound card,

but fldigi does not see them at all. Fldigi’s Audio/settings window is all grayed out except for “File I/O only”. I tried lots of things to no

avail. I found a tech note

about the problem, but following the author’s suggestions didn’t fix it. So I’m back on my MacBook tonight.

Our local HF NVIS net was interesting. From 1800-1815, within the county, 80, 40 and 60 were all good. 40 was probably best, but

all worked and only one relay needed on 80. Also reached Ventura on all bands, and Fresno on 40.

Shortwave Radiogram transmits digital text and images on an analog shortwave broadcast transmitter. The program is produced and presented by Dr. Kim Andrew Elliott KD9XB.
