Band condx were no problem for digital comms tonight, even though we were experiencing a solar magnetic storm and band forecast was POOR. Doug K7KY used THOR-50×1 for the FLAMP exercise with good success. Although some stations did need fills, MFSK32 filled the missing blocks like a champ.

In the weekly FLAMP exercises, I notice that when a station REPORTS a file as “Unassigned” and also has missing blocks, FLAMP will fill the blocks as listed. After filling the missing blocks, the next REPORT will request the PREAMBLE (block 0) because the header info is still missing (block 0). Always add a “0” when you see the file is listed as “Unassigned”.  It will save you an extra transmission.

ORCA welcomes new Ops from Humboldt County, California . Jaye KE6SLS checked in from his club’s station W6ZZK in Eureka,CA and relayed the whole crew… all 18 of them! I recognize friends on the list and some new Amateur Radio Operators. Great to have you join us and hope to see you on the WF again. Maybe we’ll have more HARC participation in the future… who knows?

Below are images copied by net members that show influence of band condx:

Thanks for practicing with us tonight.  We hope to see you again next Tuesday evening.    73  Mindy W7ZAP

ANNOUNCEMENTS 10 April 2018

Tonight’s Optional FLAMP exercise distributes ‘ex64.txt’, a digital
-traffic and file-manipulation exercise. Complete the instructions
and send the file to NCS during TRAFFIC round using FLAMP, or
send your own practice traffic or QRU.

Watch other stations report during the FLAMP round. Occasionally
you will see a station report missing blocks with no file name.
Here’s an example from last week:
DE W1EEP
File : Unassigned
{C3E9}2 3 4 6
DE W1EEP K

If you want to do a fill for this station using “FETCH” then “RELAY”
you would only TX blocks 2,3,4,6. Seeing the file as Unassigned tells
you that they also need the PREAMBLE which is block “0”. You can send
this to them by either adding the “0” to the block field or RELAY the
entire file.

Net Report posted as soon as we can…

Next for comments is Doug KA7FOO < W7ZAP

Band conditions seemed to be quite good to me.
Good copy on everybodies keyboard xmit.
The ORCA Logo was received in quite good condition.

Dave, K7DV, had a very nice signal into Reno tongiht.

The thor50x1 worked very nicely. Maybe we should run
that mode for a night just to see how well it works.

Mindy you were running 40/9 tonight.
I was running about 30 Watts tonght, normally 60
to 70 Watts. Plan on retuning this antenna for
bottom of band. Running a VSWR of 3:1.
Will install another for voice comms.

Thanks for the macro, will try in a couple days.

Stronger winds tmorrow, but not damaging type.

See all of you next week.

JUST INTERESTING

Not long ago, scientists at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis demonstrated that, at least in mice, a natural precursor to NAD—nicotinamide mononucleotide or NMN—converts to NAD within minutes. As they suspected, the NAD increase boosts energy burn, potentially warding off some of the inevitable effects of aging, such as weight gain, loss of insulin sensitivity, and declines in physical activity.

Recently, scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) discovered that treating aging mice with NMN for as little as two months visibly improved the health of the mice’s blood vessels. These elderly mice gained 80 percent more exercise endurance and helped to restore their muscle mass to that of much younger mice.

I SURE HOPE THEY HURRY UP!!!!

DE KF7YRS

Yea me too… that sounds interesting and promising at least for the mice. Will be interesting to see if it makes it to human market anytime soon. Thanks for the info!
