ORCA DIGITAL NET Report 05/Jan/16

Check ins: 4

Stations:
K7IFG
N6IET in&out
W7ZAP
K7KY NCS

Not a great band night, but we did well with both MFSK-32 and MFSK64L, not well
with 8PSK125.

Sorry it’s taken so long to generate the net report. We’ve been busy working on the website migration and I think we’re really close. I hope to have it up tomorrow. The site needs a little refreshing to reflect recent net changes, but our first task it to activate
it. Now, it will have its own domain name: orcadigitalnet.com.

I’m still visiting other digital nets to see how they’re structured and what modes seem to
work best. Most nets fall back to Olivia when the band is really poor. At the San Diego NBEMS net, NCS sends one message in flmsg/flamp three times and only fills 5 blocks
or less. They have more check-ins than we do. I encourage you to visit other digital nets too. Cross pollinating the nets with skilled Ops is a good thing, I think.

Hope to see you all on Tues evening. Best wishes to Jaye KE6SLS for a speedy recovery. 73 Doug K7KY

ORCA DIGITAL NET, Announcements, 05/Jan/16

NOTE – CHANGE – FLAMP REPORT ROUTINE:
For FLAMP traffic, we interrupt the directed traffic round for a
single round of FLAMP REPORTs. NCS will call for your
REPORT. If you’re not running FLAMP, reply ‘NO FLAMP’.
Originator resends missing blocks. Only one REPORT round.
Then, we continue directed traffic rotation. Ops still missing
blocks can fill later.

If you can’t copy NCS or other stations well, you can try changing
modes. Please select the fastest mode that conditions will
support. Olivia should be our last resort; it’s very slow. When
MFSK-32 is not printing well, try MFSK-16 next. It may be sufficient
to maintain contact. Band conditions have been difficult this winter.

Checking in late? Send your CALLSIGN during a lull or print it
nearby on the waterfall.

Have to leave early? Please check-out with NCS. < K7KY Well, it looks like just Ken K7IFG, Mindy W7ZAP, and myself so far tonight... We always have a smaller net when the Humboldt Ops have their club meetings... OK Ken, its up to you... < K7KY esp Before RSID: <<2016-01-06T03:43Z MFSK-32 @ 1500>>

Orca de K7IFG Great net I got to remember to check the comp box on the flamp. I downloaded the latest alpha version this morning , but could not
downloade the new version of flmsg. No big deal. everything seems to be working ok. Copied mindy’s message perfecto. Had a nice visit with
daughter over the holiday weekends and she is back in the bay area getting lots of rain today. Oh i heard that KE7WKM the new OEM manager of the
station at the Capitol is planning a check net Saturday morning on the 80 and 40 meter phone freqs for ARES. Should be interesting. btu doug de

Ken… Good to hear you got to spend some time with your daughter… Makes me miss my son. Speaking of new nets, you may
remember that Jaye KE6SLS announced the Humboldt Digital Emergency NEt for Mon evenings @ 8pm local 3.582 1000wf Olivia 8/250… Last net,
they were using MFSK16, but they do use Olivia when it’s hard to copy. This net is picking up for their phone net @ 1945 that has been having trouble
withthe band conditons.. Over to Mindy…

K7IFG 100% pre net FLAMP
70% 1st FLAMP S9 (s/n 29dB)
100% 2nd FLAMP S7 (s/n 3db)
N6IET 100% KBD
K7KY 100% FLMSG + image

Band conditions much better tonight than I’ve seen for weeks. I think my squelch
slider was set too low for Ken’s 8PSK125 FLAMP. I copied his pre-net FLAMP 100%.

I don’t remember the FLAMP signal on the wf looking like ‘stair steps’ at the end of TX before.
I noticed it occuring using different modes tonight. Maybe it’s always looked like that and I just noticed it tonight.

Enjoyed the FLAMP Ken, thanks :-)

Ooops… meant to say my slider was too high!

TU Mindy…. HEre’s my report:

K7IFG Poor copy 8PSK125 tonight, but 100% both MFSK64L msg’s
N6IET in&out 100% copy on kbd
W7ZAP 100% + flmsg I like to see the weekend CW contests
And, that’s it for tonight… small net again, but easy to work and easy to experiment any further business for the net before we close? < K7KY This concludes the ORCA DIGITAL NET for:1/5/2016 20:22 Pacific Standard Time Thank's for participating in the net tonight. We appreciate your time and input. Hope to see you again next week. 73 < Doug K7KY NCS K7IFG Thanks for coming Ken w/o you we would have been alone, so to speak.. cu next time... 73 Doug K7KY sk Before RSID: <<2016-01-06T04:23Z MFSK-32 @ 1499>>
