Tonight’s net was remarkable. We logged 37 stations. 10 stations participated in the Basic NBEMS Exercise. We wrapped the net in 45min. Probably an ORCA DIGITAL NET Record. Thanks to your focus and attention, the net ran like the proverbial Swiss clock. ORCA sessions present a dynamic example of efficient digital networking.

31 stations (83%) checked in using ORCA Ck-In Protocol. Thank You! That may also be a Record. We repeat Ck-In Protocol numerous time during Ck-In every week. Net Protocols are published on the website. We’ve been trying to explain why following Ck-In protocol is important. We have all regular ck-in data in the log. Sending your Name & QTH is redundant. In condx like this evening, there’s no need to send your CALLSIGN 3 times. We’re waiting for you to stop sending so we can copy. It’s difficult to copy when the RX buffer is scrolling. If you’re not checking in correctly, please revise your ck-in macro or use our ck-in Macro, available at the website. We’ll begin reminding stations at ck-in where to learn our Ck-In Protocol. During nets, our digital credentials are on display.

Two ORCA Ops are making solid progress with the Guest/NCS – Basic NBEMS Exercise project. They’ve already overcome a couple Mac issues. They’re experimenting and practicing on 3.581. If you see them working, ask if you can join in and make their practice more realistic. The instructions and Macros for this project will enable any digital Op to take these Exercise to other venues. Running the Basic Exercise isn’t difficult. It’s mostly Macro driven. Conducting Basic NBEMS Exercises as Guest/NCS will lead to wider digital skills and more confidence.

Next Tuesday, 12/Apr/22, we’ll again combine the Path Evaluation Macro and Comments in one seamless transmission. The <VER> Tag will replace the Time Stamp Tag after your CALLSIGN. In your Comments, please say if you succeeded in switching between two Macro sets with the <MACROS> Tag. Here’s 3 Macro tasks for next week:

1) Replace the Time Stamp Tag in your Path Evaluation Macro with the Version Tag, <VER>. It prints like this:
‘ORCA  < K7KY Fldigi 4.1.20.47

2) If you’re still using FLDIGI’s default Macro name, ‘macros.mdf’, now is the time to give it a unique name, ie: ‘mymacros.mdf’. If your macros are still named, ‘macros.mdf’ and FLDIGI can’t find the file for any reason, it creates another default Macro set, ‘macros.mdf’.  At this point, it’s very easy to overwrite macros you’ve added or customized with FLDIGI’s default file. Your previous changes will be lost.

3) Make a copy of your macro set with a unique name like, ‘mymacros2.mdf’. Make a new Button on your original set with the <MACROS> Tag that Calls the new macro file. Call the new set and make a <MACROS> Button that Calls the original set. Now, you can switch between these two Macro sets instantly.

For ‘How to’ instructions, see: ‘Change Macro sets instantly w/the <MACROS> Tag’ here: http://orcadigitalnet.com/resources/tips-tactics/#MACRO

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Tonight, the 1st Tuesday this month, we’ll run a Basic NBEMS Exercise. No Traffic Round. The Basic NBEMS Exercise accommodates 12 stations. We won’t work w/Macros tonight, but we’ll prepare for Macro exercises next session, 12/Apr/22. Here’s three Macro tasks for that session.

1) Replace the Time Stamp Tag in your Path Evaluation Macro with the Version Tag, <VER. It prints like this:
‘ORCA  < K7KY Fldigi 4.1.20.47

2) If you’re still using FLDIGI’s default Macro name, ‘macros.mdf’, now is the time to give it a unique name, ie: ‘mymacros.mdf’. If your macros are still named, ‘macros.mdf’ and FLDIGL can’t find the file for any reason, it creates another default Macro set, ‘macros.mdf’.  At this point, it’s very easy to overwrite macros you’ve added or customized with FLDIGI’s default file. Your previous changes will be lost.

3) Make a copy of your macro set with a unique name like, ‘mymacros2.mdf’. Make a new Button on your original set with the <MACROS Tag that Calls the new macro file. Call the new set and make a <MACROS Button that Calls the original set. Now, you can switch between these two Macro sets instantly.

In the 12/Apr/22 session we’ll again combine the Path Evaluation Macro and Comments in one seamless transmission. The <VER Tag will replace the Time Stamp Tag after your CALLSIGN. In your Comments, please say if you can switch between two Macro sets using the <MACROS Tag.

For ‘How to’ instructions, see: ‘Change Macro sets instantly w/the <MACROS> Tag’ here: http://orcadigitalnet.com/resources/tips-tactics/#MACRO

The after-net Monitor’s Session is designed to help incoming Ops learn the NBEMS Exercises w/o time pressure. You can work the Exercises silently and FILL or CONFIRM files after the net. When you’re able to work the Exercises easily as a Monitor, you can ck-in Active and participate. When you ck-in to participate, work a few Basic Exercises b4 working an Advanced Exercise. Advanced Exercises require you to closely track NCS while performing additional tasks. You must Report the primary file CONFIRMED b4 working the Advanced tasks. Your top priority in Advanced Exercises is retaining focus on your place in the net and being prepared to reply when NCS calls. Don’t get lost working the Exercise and ignore NCS. Anticipate NCS calling you and be prepared to respond. The Exercises move briskly, simulating a busy Emergency or Traffic net.

:mg:549 It took me over a week to try to get the Hotspot to work on my RPi. I tried at least a half dozen of different videos and all failed. I found out that if you use Bullseye OS changes were made in file system. This web site works with Bullseye.
