First off, my apology again to those who weren’t able to check later in the net. Rick N6IET waited thru most of the net. I’ve made some progress here, but I still forget to look for late/visiting stations when I get busy. I’ve made notes in the net outline to remind myself, but I don’t always see them. When the band is noisy, they are harder to catch on the waterfall.  All I can say is my intentions are good, but execution is still spotty. I know it’s frustrating and I’m working on it along with my typing.

Although 80m was predicted to be poor tonight, it wasn’t actually too bad for digital signals. My signal may not have been as usual tonight, I can’t say. Everything seemed normal here. Brad WA7HHE relayed the weekly FLAMP message and filled the stations missing blocks. My FLAMP didn’t work at all tonight. Strange. It worked perfectly earlier in the afternoon when Mindy & I tested everything. I need to upgrade both FLAMP & FLMSG.

We missed the Humboldt Ops tonight. It’s their regular ARC meeting night. Still, we had nine check-ins, two from UT. Gene W1EEP in Pine Valley, UT was back tonight. He’s been really busy for the last few weeks working a forest fire near his home. We hear his fire fighting duties included tracking wayward drones. Maybe he’ll tell us something about this unusual assignment.  It was nice to hear Tim K7TRP in Hillsboro,OR again.  Tim is the Oregon Digital Net NCS. ODN is an ARES & Traffic net.  They meet every Friday evening @ 2000p on 3.579mhz, PSK-31.  Check-in and say Hello from ORCA.

As you know, I’m very new to Linux and last week fldigi quit working in Mint 17.3. I quickly exhausted my knowledge of Linux. Jaye KE6SLS helped get my ox out of the ditch. I’ve learned a bit more from Jaye and hope to keep everything working myself now. It’s easy to forget the complexities of digital communications when you have it all set up, configured, and working flawlessly. Sometimes, one stray bit can stop the whole operation.

Thanks to everyone who brings flmsg and flamp traffic. It’s great practice and interesting reading too. We were seeing a few Radiogram messages a while ago and I hope to see more. We can send Radiograms to other ORCA members w/o connecting to other traffic nets. It will be good practice for more detailed formal traffic handling. When you don’t have other traffic, please send a Radiogram to someone on the net. If they’re not present, we’ll hold their traffic. It will lead us to more detailed message forms. You can have a Radiogram ready for the night when we’re really busy, so you can send a quick piece of traffic and hold your longer message for the next net.

I appreciate the Ops who email comments, questions, and suggestions. Mindy & I try to incorporate requests and suggestions into the net format. Thanks again for working with us regularly. I hope to see you next Tuesday evening. 73 Doug K7KY
