A BIG Thank You! to Steve K6ETA for extensive relaying tonight. Steve is usually well copied on ORCA; he was exactly what we needed tonight. Approaching solar minimum next year, we’re entering a propagation phase that will require more relaying. A bit frustrating, but good for learning and practice. We’ll begin asking a strong station to call for those not copying NCS at check-in and log relayed stations as monitors (in&out). For formal traffic or emergency traffic, we would dispatch a station to RX their traffic.

Band condx extended check-in to 20min, so we started a little late. I thought band condx would persist and might deteriorate further, but they actually improved as we progressed. With 17 ck-ins, 11 of them active, I canceled the weekly FLAMP exercise and the Traffic round. After ck-in and announcements, we went directly to the Comment round. This moved along well as the band was improving. I realized some Ops were disappointed with the FLAMP and Traffic cancellations. We somewhat remedied this by running the FLAMP exercise after closing the net. Most stayed around for the exercise and it went well in MFSK-32, filling with MFSK-16.

Ken KR7KR and Bill K6QOG sent these images during the Comment round.

TX: K6QOG  UT   RX: K7KY  OR
TX: K6QOG  UT   RX: W7ZAP  OR

TX: KR7KR  UT   RX: K7KY  OR
TX: KR7KR  UT   RX:W7ZAP  OR
TX: KR7KR  UT   RX:KB6NN  CA

Again tonight, UT stations are nearly a third of the net. Four of the five in Cedar City. These stations use VHF as a back channel for the net. Why do they have such great signals? Maybe living around 6000ft ASL might explain it. I think they’re all EMCOMM Ops.

I’m still unable to contact Mark K7MBA in Kennewick,WA about his CW signal on 3.582. It’s been with us the last four nets now. It doesn’t bother MFSK-32 reception, but it’s within the MFSK-64 envelope and definitely hinders copy. This is a very odd signal to me. It sometimes runs thru the whole net. I’ve also noticed it on other days and times. I’ve tried to reply in CW, but no answer. I’ve not seen anyone reply to his CQ. The CQ begins with two ‘V’s’ and then CQ at about 20wpm using a bug. It sounds like a recording; the same characters repeating over and over. He may have a rogue bot in his station. If you know how to contact Mark, let me know.

Thanks for your patience with the band and changes in the net. I hope to see you all next week in better condx.

73 Doug K7KY

With band this bad, we REALLY need the TX ID turned on.

My neighbor and her daughter were involved in a drive by radom shooting last night here
in Eureka! Police are investigating, but this time no one was hurt. She called me in
the middle of our busy nets to inform me. Best wishes are with her and daughter–what
a nightmare :(

gb6nn & I performed 160m tests, phone failed, digital worked!

Ordered a new SSD for this 2006 thinkpad x61! I will start with new Mint OS and add all
the neat goidies for ham radio. Looking forward to installing aprx and replacing xastir
(which is a huge memory hog) for my aprs Igate here in town. Looking forward to ao# h
more responsive computer. Did anyone see my silly video after installing a 1tb SSD on
my main laptop? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oh4BBRHWy8

bands bad! Bad bands. We must spank the bands, send the bands to their room and restrict
supper to bands. Doug tried to ck into my Monday evening digi net and also had lost me
half way through. I had more check…q via APRS than the normal hf digi net! Tonight, k6eta
is rocking into humboldt and TU for the work om!

kb6hoh & I talked two weeks ago about a phone net, finally got logged in on 3895MHz
tonight @ 6pm. Was not able to make it into the 60m net æ nncs moved down 160M :(

K7KY and the net,bandconditions.com currently indicating 100 but has been varying down to 57. Copying most stations, KE6SLS Jayee is generally difficult for me, maybe someday mother nature will cooperate more. Good sized net tonight,so will wish everyone best of 73’s from Cedar City. de WA7HHE
