Deteriorating band conditions, severe winter weather (high winds & rain), home power off & on all added to the mix for tonight’s net. This was not my smoothest net as NCS. Two weeks ago I made changes to my macros and I’m not sure that I like the changes. Little things can change the flow of how you work.

Has anyone else noticed the similarities of callsign suffixes: W6DLW, K7LDW, KG6LHW? Sometimes it’s difficult to keep everyone straight in my mind! Doug K7KY and I both had our band filters active and saw only  ‘OQ’ at 1000 the waterfall during check in and mistakenly thought Bill K6QOG must be trying to get our attention. My apologies for the confusion Bill. We figured out it was Aaron KI7LOQ checking in. Then, during the TRAFFIC round, I skipped Bill completely, neither Doug or I realized the error.

This was a night for RELAYS. We had two relays during check in by Doug KA7FOO (relay: Anthony KG6LHW) and Steve W7WSV (relay: Craig KD7CL). The band was long and stations close to NCS were better heard by distant stations. Gene W1EEP relayed the FLAMP exercise with 3 stations copying him 100% when they had little to no copy on NCS. Following the net, Joe W7LUX relayed a missing block from KS6M’s file and filled the remaining blocks from Doug KA7FOO that I missed during the TRAFFIC round. John KS6M filled the remaining missing block.

We’re making good use of relays these days. Current band condx make relays routine events. When relaying FLAMP fill blocks, remember: You can “FETCH” for each incomplete file. FLAMP will sum ALL the REPORTS you copied, automatically populating the missing ‘blocks’ window.  The ‘blocks’ window is easily changed.  You can delete numerals or add them with coma separation as needed.

Stations near NCS suffered very poor path, while the distant stations were solid. The FLAMP exercise saw three stations CONFIRMED on the first pass in MFSK-128, a fast (480wpm), wide (1920Hz), and reliable mode.

Thanks for sending your signal evaluation images for the Net Report. They provide a graphic view of band conditions effecting the net, and give practice locating and manipulating files in the file system.

ANNOUNCEMENTS 26/Nov/2019

Tonight’s FLAMP exercise distributes the file, ‘ex147.txt’, an FLDIGI/FLMSG/
FLAMP exercise. If you complete the OPTIONAL exercise within, send that file to
NCS in the Traffic round with FLAMP.

We’re working on the website section, ‘NCS TOOLS’. We were a bit off course at
first. Now, homestead chores have come to the fore; we’ll complete it as soon as
we can. Meantime, try building the ck-in roster with NCS. It will prepare you
for taking check-ins with FLDIGI’s Logger.

Thanks for sending the two test images. The images make the Net Reports more
useful and interesting.

If you usually check in&out or monitor w/o checking in, please send your reception
report, comments, and Test images with Call/Name/Location to: ncs@orcadigitalnet.com

Doug and I wish you a pleasant and peaceful Thanksgiving Holiday. We’re really thankful
for each of you. ORCA DIGITAL NET has grown into more than a training and practice net.
We’ve become friends and colleagues, efficent and effective. We’ve also become a team;
we have coherence and momentum.
