Tonight we had the worst band condx in some time. I hope it doesn’t herald worse condx to come. These condx make radio communications difficult, but that isn’t necessarily bad for digital communications practice. We will learn which modes best cope with poor propagation and interference. Learning and practicing in tough condx is a good thing, actually. When condx are favorable, we’ll really shine.

MFSK-32 worked well for all but Jaye KE6SLS; he’s too close to NCS tonight. In the Traffic round we had more images than usual. Even the color images printed well through the noise. It’s good to see images in the Traffic round. Sometimes they will be more informative than long explanations. During early ck-in, we again had WINMOR within the MFSK-32 envelope and CW on our left sleeve. I didn’t notice much loss of copy. Both were gone when we began the net.

In December we will begin passing traffic off the net frequency, similar to Traffic and Emergency nets. On the 3rd week each month, we’ll skip the FLAMP exercise to leave more time for the Traffic round. On the 2nd monthly net, I’ll remind you to prepare a short message for the following week. You don’t need to decide on the recipient until you see who checks in. It may take a couple nets to work it into our format smoothly. This exercise will prepare us for working Traffic and Emergency nets where most traffic is passed off the net frequency.

Here are some of the images copied tonight.

Enjoy Thanksgiving and be careful while traveling. You may have noticed some big cities are encasing lampposts and other pedestrian obstructions in air-bags to prevent pedestrians enthralled by electronic devices from injuring themselves. Most of these multitaskers also drive cars.

ORCA ANNOUNCEMENTS 21 November 2017 Happy Thanksgiving!

We’re thankful for everyone that participates and contributes to

the ORCA DIGITAL NET. We’ve learned so much about digital traffic

over nearly 5yrs of networking with you. Without your participation,

we wouldn’t have a net.

Tonight’s Optional FLAMP exercise distributes ‘ex47.txt’, an FLMSG

/FLAMP exercise using the FLMSG Blank form. Complete the instructions

and send the file to NCS during TRAFFIC round using FLAMP, or send

your own practice traffic or QRU.

OFF-NET-FREQ Traffic practice:

We did well with our first time passing traffic off-net-freq. We can

benefit from doing this regularly. Beginning in December, we’ll use

the 3rd week each month when ARC’s aren’t meeting. On the 2nd Tues,

I’ll remind you about bringing a short msg you can send the following

week. Don’t decide the recipient until we see who checks in. Following

ck-in, I’ll call for ‘Traffic to list’for this exercise. We’ll drop

the FLAMP exercise for the Off-Freq-Traffic exercise.

TIP: Enabling ‘Mark prev freq/mode’ on Configure/ID/RsID tab will

print a link on the RX screen when mode changes. Clicking this

link will return FLDIGI to a previous mode/freq. Very handy for

one-click return to any previous mode/freq.

Net Report posted as soon as we can…
