ORCA welcomes KD7CL Craig and AG7RV Dick. Craig is an old Curry County,OR neighbor and now resides in Riverton, OR. We lost a couple of stations during the net which might have been due to nearby lightning. K7KY Doug’s finger is healing and he’s now leading the weekly FLAMP exercise. KK6RKY Erik suggested we have an alt-NCS that is in a different location after I said we might have to secure our stations if T-storms hit. Good idea. K7DV Dave has stepped in as an alt-NCS a couple times which was much appreciated. His UT station is usually well received by all stations. We would like to assist any Op in practicing NCS duties. Contact Doug at ncs@orcadigitalnet.com if you’re interested.

ORCA ANNOUNCMENTS

Tonight’s weekly FLAMP exercise distributes ‘ex16.txt’, an optional
file-manipulation/FLAMP exercise. Return your file in FLAMP to NCS
during TRAFFIC round, or send your own practice message, or QRU. This
exercise provides practice in responding to a message while maintaining
awareness of your position in ongoing net operations.

PLEASE Remember to:
LOCK: fldigi curser @ 1500, ENABLE: RxID & TxID
This keeps us on freq and enables us to follow mode changes automatically.

DISABLE: Mode-ID, end-of-TX-ID, CWID, CW-Postamble-ID, auto-Pre-Tone
These features are not helpful during net. They increase net time while
reducing practice time.

Pre-Tone prevents doubles when many Ops may respond, but is unhelpful when
NCS calls you directly.

We recently recieved email concerned that we’re wasting time calling for
REPORTS in rotation during the weekly FLAMP exercise. The observer
suggests we do it like other digital nets and just call for fills. We agree
this may sometimes be faster, but undirected REPORTING often generates
numerous doubles. We are not trying to complete the exercise quickly. We’re
trying to provide weekly hands-on practice with the fundamental FLDIGI
features necessary for efficient and accurate handling of critical traffic,
ie: REPORT & RELAY. During TRAFFIC round, only NCS REPORTS and
fills FLAMP messages. Your thoughts and observations are welcome:

:mg:748 The Trinity Radio Readiness Net

Come and join us!

The Trinity Radio Readiness Net meets on the Second and Fourth Thursdays of each month at 7 pm. The purpose of the net is
training and exercise in the art of public service and emergency communications.

This 2 m net uses the Hayfork Bally repeater(146.730MHz, -off, PL 85.4Hz).

This net is not an emergency net per se, but rather focuses on education and activities. It is based on the successful Arizona
Emergency Net – Maricopa (www.aen-mar.org) model as described in Sept 2016 QST.

There is more information at www.trinity-rrn.org

Topics we have covered so far are:

* Operating with alternate (non-grid) power
* Items for an emergency evacuation situation (bug out kit)
* Operating QRP
