Propagation is definitely improving. We copied nearby stations much better tonight; distant stations were as good as ever. Early Ck-In began @ 1900p/0300z tonight and we’ll make this change permanent. We’ve more new stations this week too. ORCA welcomes Chris AE5CL in Tuscon,AZ, John W6ZYC in Burlingame,CA, and Bill KM6KV in Brookings,OR. Welcome back to Linda KG7PBX in Cedar City,UT and Rex WB8TDG in Dayton,OH.

Hat’s of to Brad WA7HHE for sending his traffic in a faster mode. We encourage everyone to change modes for their traffic when they think the band will support a faster mode. This is how we learn mode characteristics and applicability. Even when a mode fails, we learn something. Be bold, if it doesn’t work, go to plan B.

Reminder: The weekly FLAMP exercise engages every active station and we take a REPORT from each one. Not so for the Traffic round. During Traffic round, you’re sending directly to NCS and only NCS REPORTs back to you. If you want to complete a message sent to NCS during Traffic, tell NCS. Most Ops will hang around a few minutes after net to fill their Traffic message for you.

The weekly FLAMP exercise is our most comprehensive digital-traffic exercise. It includes FLAMP’s REPORT, FETCH, RELAY features. If you do the minimum required in this exercise, you are practicing with the software tools you will use to pass digital traffic on an Emergency or Traffic net. If you also work the optional file-manipulation exercise included in each exercise, you are multi-tasking. You’re manipulating the PC file system while maintaining your focus in the net. Now, you’re using three significant systems simultaneously: keyboard, software, file-system. We need to be competent in all three areas. Keep up the good work. Practice makes perfect.

ANNOUNCEMENTS 06 March 2018

Tonight’s Optional FLAMP exercise distributes ‘ex59.txt’, a digital
-traffic and file-manipulation exercise. Complete the instructions
and send the file to NCS during TRAFFIC round using FLAMP, or
send your own practice traffic or QRU.

Last week we checked in 22 stations and 25 stations the week before.
If this trend continues, we may have to modify our net routines a
little. Before we change any net routines, we will start logging
early check-ins @ 1900p/0300z. This is the busiest time for NCS.
A number of regular Ops frequently connect on frequency before the
net. If I can begin taking check-ins @ 1900p, it will help.

Daylight Savings Time again. Already! The time is changing again next weekend. Spring forward.

Remember: A brief Pre-Tone b4 TX will help prevent doubling.

Here’s a simple net exercise you can practice alone. During Ck-In
& throughout the net, log CALL & NAME of every station as if you
are NCS. Do this for every net you work; every time. Soon, you will
be good at catching callsigns quickly and you will better know your digital colleagues.

Net Report posted as soon as we can…

:mg:838 (TNS) – Power was restored to 127,000 National Grid customers by Sunday evening but a steady snow was expected to fall until about 7 or 8 a.m. Monday, adding

challenges to restoring power to the last of the remaining 23,000 customers.

The hardest hit expected to be reconnected by Monday’s end. On Wednesday, potentially significant snow and wind are expected.

Tuesday will be the first break of major sunshine, with a high near 41 in the Providence area, but “significant snow and wind” comes back into the region by Wednesday

and Thursday, the Weather Service says.
