Running the net w/o TXid & AFC is working out well. Neither Mindy W7ZAP nor I had any problems with wandering signals. Howard KB6NN left his station monitoring the net while he attended a ARC meeting. Fldigi copied the net w/o missing any transmissions. I would like to hear your experience with this change to net protocol. So far, no one seems to be having trouble with signal tracking w/o TXid & AFC.

We’ve added the a Net Outline file to the website download tab. You can print this file for a hard copy or open the file on your desktop to help track net activity during poor reception or in case you’ve been distracted and lost your position. The net usually follows this outline.

Thanks for taking time to practice with us every Tuesday evening. While we don’t cover new things every net, we always practice the things we’ve already learned and it’s practice that enables us to remain balanced and focused in emergencies. I look forward to practicing with you again next Tuesday.

ORCA ANNOUNCMENTS

Tonight’s weekly FLAMP exercise distributes ‘ex22.txt’, an optional

file-manipulation/FLAMP exercise. Return your file in FLAMP to NCS

during TRAFFIC round, or send your own practice message, or QRU.

This exercise practices responding to questions while maintaining

focus on net operations.

Steve K6ETA’s suggestion to turn off TXid & AFC during net seems valid.

We’ll run the net w/o these two features and give it a good trial. NCS

will activate TXid selectivly and net members will turn TXid & AFC off.

Our primary need for TXid is mode changes.

An ORCA DIGITAL NET outline is now available on the website. You can

print it or have it open on your desktop during nets. It may help you

track net activities during poor reception or local distractions.

Dave W1HKJ has posted the latest fldigi release, v4.0.3:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/fldigi/files/

The ‘SAVE’ macro tag, now work correctly.

“This is the third year in a row that the total number of new licenses has exceeded 30,000,” said ARRL Volunteer Examiner Coordinator Manager Maria Somma last year.
