80m worked well for most Western stations tonight and marginally for three stations in Missouri. We didn’t log anyone between Utah and Missouri. Our connection with the Missouri Ops was sketchy. We really appreciate the effort these Ops make to work the net. They’re decoding a 35w signal from long distance in unfavorable band condx and a two hour time difference. Working with us is obviously beneficial for them or they wouldn’t persist. Hats-Off to the Missouri Ops. If we could, we would conduct the net with more power, but we’re too close together to exceed 35w. Our old Yeasu FT-857Ds have tolerated hot nearby signals for 9yrs.

ORCA DIGITAL NET Welcomes Rick WS7PB in Cave Junction,OR. We’ll ask Rick to read the Quick-Start Guide here:: http://orcadigitalnet.com/quick-start/, and ck-in QNX until he’s familiar with our Protocols and conventions. ORCA ck-in Macros are available here: http://orcadigitalnet.com/macros/

We had a full-house of eight Ops for the Advanced NBEMS Exercise. Not all eight were actually ready. Two stations didn’t reply to NCS when called to Report. When stations don’t answer Report calls, and later send the Advanced file, we know they CONFIRMED the primary file and immediately began working the Advanced Exercise. The Exercises are not simple; learning them takes time and practice. Figuring out the Exercise on-the-fly isn’t an option; it hinders the experienced Ops that work the fast-paced Exercises to sharpen their traffic-handling skills.

Hereafter, all New stations will ck-in QNX for awhile. If they’re interested in the NBEMS Exercises, they’ll work them silently as Monitors, checking their work in the after-net Monitor’s Session. They’ll consult NCS before checking in Active to work NBEMS Exercises. ORCA is fundamentally a self-teaching self-correcting Training Net. Incoming Ops are encouraged to prepare by reading the Quick-Start Guide and observing net operations. Reading Comprehension and Situational Awareness are fundamental to understanding and working ORCA.

Today, we have numerous net members that always ck-in QNX. We value these stations equally with the long-time participants. Although they don’t practice with us, they may have significant digital skills and a host of reasons for not participating. We don’t judge them; many of them will be with us in times of need and may provide important information or access. They’re always welcome at ORCA DIGITAL NET.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Tonight we’ll work the Advanced NBEMS Exercise. Advance Exercises only accommodate eight stations. If you don’t make the cut, work the Exercise silently and FILL or CONFIRM in the after-net Monitor’s Session. Next session is the 5th Tuesday this month and another Advanced NBEMS Exercise. We don’t experiment with Macros when we have an Advance NBEMS Exercise w/Traffic Round.

Speaking of the Path Evaluation Macro experiments, they need a bit of clarification. Beginning/Ending images depict pathways between all net stations and NCS. The two best images you receive when we’re experimenting with the Path Macro in the Commnet Round depicts Pathways between net stations. Mixing these distinctions reduces the usefulness of the image table. Try to email them before 1100p. Sorting and publishing them takes more time; we really appreciate you taking time to send them; we want them to be useful.

Your opportunity to conduct the Basic NBEMS Exercise also needs clarification. The term, Guest/NCS, may be giving the wrong impression. It’s an opportunity to conduct the Basic NBEMS Exercise only, not the entire net. You would run only the Exercse, just as we do every week. NCS announces the Exercise w/you as Guest/NCS. When the exercise concludes, you return Net Control to NCS. That’s all; the Exercises are run mostly by Macro with a little pencil/paper logging of Fill Bllcks needed. Anyone working ORCA long enough to be comfortable in all sessions is capable of conducting the Basic NBEMS Exercise.

We’ll work w/you on-air simulating the Exercise until you’re comfortable and back you up just as we do each other every session. You’ll be working with colleagues who wish you well. We plan to have the ‘How to’ outline finished this month and Welcome a Guest/NCS next month.

Over to Doug K7KY w/tonite’s Advanced NBEMS exercise < W7ZAP

GE, our Basic NBEMS Exercise begins in MFSK-128 (480wpm,1920hz,100%,FEC).
We’ll fill with MFSK-64 (240wpm,1260hz,100%,FEC), & MFSK-32 (630hz,
120wpm,100%,FEC).   < K7KY

Spring arrived slowly at my QTH but with determination. ALL of our pasture snow has melted and revealed some damage from wind and crushing snow. I’ll have some extra activity later in the spring as irrigation watering begins. Not complaining.

I’ll be away a week with a quick four day visit to OHSU and then back to Joseph.

All is well. 73 de WB7EUX

Good band conditions tonight. Great net as usual. Since I got complete file first round I was able to set up my file early. Drat you snuck in a # sign in the Op note section! Which was different from the file save.

Band is better than I anticipated. Hmm… not sure about the #sign and file… will try to figure out later

Today I finally got linbpq running!  It’s a baby step and took months to finally achieve.  Now the plan is to move TNC over once I have that port up, and ultimately, have a packet RMS added.

Really looking forward to seeing some ops take up the reins as GUEST NCS.  That should be really fun and interesting.  Many of our stations have amazing signals.

Rough day today.  This is my highlight and the signals are mostly amazing tonight!

My friends in Ukraine are alive and mostly doing well.  One has reported that the bombs now sound like normal street noise.  God be with them.

Quick note:  EYES ON NCS first, exercise second, EYES ON NCS 1st. I really wish we could have a working call notifier that would chime each time your call sign printed!  There is something, but seems to only work for PSK31

What is Ad Exs??  Not making that connection.

Great to see so many great ops tonight!  Hope to see you on the WDN too.

Stay well, stay safe.  VIVA UKRAINE!

K7KY Doug ur up 4 Comments  < W7ZAP

ORCA < K7KY

ORCA DIGITAL NET Welcomes Rick WS7PB in Cave Junction,OR. Cave Junction is about 50m East of NCS. We’re always delighted to see another Oregon station. For years, Mindy & I were the only Oregon stations. Odd for a net that began in Oregon & California. Now we serve stations in and beyond Missouri.

We’ll ask Rick and all incoming stations to read the website Quick-Start Guide (http://orcadigitalnet.com/quick-start/) before attempting the Basic and Advanced NBEMS Exercises. After reading, please monitor (QNX) a few sessions and work the Exercises silently and check your work in the after-net Monitor’s Session. It helps keep the Exercise moving briskly. Part of the Advanced NBEMS Exercise is time pressure. When the Exercise stalls waiting for an unprepared Op, it removes the small element of time pressure that makes the Exericse more useful in training for stressful situations.

Avoid Brad’s, ‘egg on the face’ by working both NBEMS Exercises silently while Monitoring (QNX). THEN jump in and practice w/us w/o eggs (-: Check you work in the Monitor’s Session and you’ll soon be ready for Prime Time.

How’s your Reading Comprehension?  Some stations are still missing Ck-In Protocol. ORCA ck-in is really simple. There are ORCA Ck-In macros on the website. It’s very easy to ck-in correctly. It’s a Training Net. Why train incorrectly?  PLEASE send only Ck- In Protocol on a single line. It make compiling the Roster much easier for us. We can’t begin highlighting to copy until you stop sending. Thankd for helpiing us manage the net.

Ck-In Protocol is repeated numerous time every session @ Early Ck-In
SEND on 1 line:
‘CALLSIGN’ only (Active)
‘CALLSIGN QNX’ (In&Out)
‘CALL NAME QTH QNX’ (1st Ck-In) < W7ZAP/NCS

Speaking of Net Protocol, please disable TxID during nets and Pre-Signal Tone.

Thanks for working with us this evening. We appreciate your support and participation.
