Tonight’s net ran at 2000wf because of the digital signal on 3.581 during early ck-in. Once the net opened, the signal was gone. There was no TXid and I didn’t recognize the signal. Steve K6ETA ID’d it as WINMOR. I hope they haven’t chosen 3.581 as a 0230z traffic channel.

We endured the worst band condx this winter. I’m looking forward to summer. We could see the FLAMP exercise was not going well in THOR-22 when the first three calls for REPORTS went unanswered. Mindy W7ZAP had a feedline kink that really hampered her signal. The CA stations did follow mode change and print the message, but the more distant stations hardly heard her. She handed the exercise back to me and we concluded in MFSK-32. I’d noticed the ladder line kink earlier, but forgot until it was net time and too late to take it down.

We had two Idaho stations on tonight, Dave K7DV in Idaho Falls and Calvin N7AY in Middleton. Both are members of the Idaho International ERC Digital Net. They meet every Wednesday @ 0100z/1800p on 3.581, Olivia 8/500. NCS is Bliss W7RUG. Dave is NCS/alt. Drop in and practice digital traffic with them. Our weekly FLAMP exercise was inspired by their exercises. Monitor them at check-in; their check-in expects more than your callsign.

Brad WA7HHE was away from his station when I called for his FLAMP REPORT. He was helping his wife who’s in a wheelchair following an accident. We wish her a speedy recovery.

Thanks for working with us tonight. The band was not fun, but working in these condx deepens our digital skills. We hope to see you again next Tuesday evening in a better band (-:.

ORCA ANNOUNCEMENTS

Tonight’s weekly FLAMP exercise distributes ‘ex25.txt’, an optional

file-manipulation/FLAMP exercise. Return your file in FLAMP to NCS

during TRAFFIC round, or send your own practice message, or QRU.

MODE CHANGE:

Learning the attributes and efficiencies of the various digital

modes is important to our development and practice. We will be

changing modes often to pass traffic more quickly when band condx

are favorable.

Before changing mode, consider how well you’re copying the other

stations. While practicing digital traffic on ORCA, you are sending

to the entire net. In emergency situations you will be sending to

one station, NCS or your receiver.

Please announce your intended mode change. This may be unnecessary,

but we’ll begin this way and see how it goes. Return to the current

net mode when you’re finished.

Net Report posted as soon as we can…
