ORCA DIGITAL NET 14/Jun/16 check-in/rotation:

Check-ins: 6
Stations:
KE6SLS Jaye Eureka,CA
W1EEP Gene Pine Valley,UT no traffic
N1SC Jeff Lehi,UT
KK6RKY Eric Trinity Center,CA
W7ZAP Mindy Brookings,OR
K7KY Doug Brookings,OR NCS 180’doublet@80′,35w

The net was small tonight with no FLAMP traffic, so it went quickly. The western stations mostly made solid contact, but Gene W1EEP and Jeff N1SC in UT had poor copy, although I was copying them perfectly. Mindy & I were really tired after digging up the garden all day, so we appreciated the smaller net tonight. Having no FLAMP traffic does make the traffic round faster, but it doesn’t happen often. FLAMP has become routine for digital traffic and it’s a good thing to be practicing it every net.

FLAMP has made the traffic round more complicated by stopping normal rotation for a round of REPORTs, but it’s certainly worth it for the practice. It’s the most efficient method for large files.

Eric KK6RKY monitored FEMA Cascadia Rising Phone traffic last weekend and noted the need for digital operations. I think some of our ORCA members will be developing digital teams in their communities.

Jeff N1SC had three root canals on one tooth this week. Yuck! It didn’t occur to me you could root canal a tooth more than once. Seems like that should be illegal. I dodged a root canal on a crown that hurt for 10 months, but finally settled down recently. Jeff also started a new Facebook Group for Digital Modes on HF Radio. The URL is in the net log, below.

Howard KB6NN was busy helping another Amateur, but monitored the net while he was away. Here’s the test image he copied. KB6NN14jun16

Jaye KE6SLS has been upgrading his station power supply and distribution system. He will have much greater storage capacity now. He’ll be all set for next winter.

Thanks for working with us tonight. I hope to see you again next week. 73 Doug K7KY

Announcements 14/Jun/16

Read the Net Report/Log @: http://orcadigitalnet.com/reports/

Net Reports are posted to the website, usually by Wednesday.

Remember: When we have FLAMP traffic, we interrupt regular

traffic rotation and go around the group from where we are for

FLAMP REPORTs (use the FLAMP REPORT Button). When we return to

the originating station we will have one fill, if needed. Then,

we move on to the next station in rotation, continuing with traffic.

Members and visitors are welcome to check-in anytime during the

net, but we may not take traffic depending on the hour and where

we are in the net. Traffic during the comment round is confusing.

just didn’t hear a peep from n1sc here. bugger,

quite a bit of noise on band here. Still kind of windy here so that is probably adding some local noise and static.

anyway, I did manage to get my new MFJ DC power outlet with Anderson Power Poles installed. Sure beats a 100 little wires

wrapped around my battery lug! I bought a tool to properly crimp the connectors locally at Burghs Electronics. He’s a good joe and

takes pretty good care of us in the 2way market.

I still have to do the battery install–picked up two largesh 6vt cells from Costco. I need to find the data sheet on them for amp hour

rating and float charge, but I can already till that I am making a big dint on my battery now, so it’s really going to be nice to have a

Had three root canals on the same tooth in a week. Lots of pain. Hi Hi.

Lots of 6 meter openings the last couple of days.

Getting ready for Field Day with the Utah Valley Amateur Radio Club. Should be lots of fun.

My friends and I also started a new Facebook Group for Digital Modes on HF Radio.

It is located at: facebook.com/groups/hamradiodigitalmodes/

Love being in the group. Enjoy this a lot. I suspect that 80 meters will be rough in the Summer.
