Forty nine minutes, open to close; that may be an ORCA record. The net went smoothly too. Smaller than usual with some regulars at ARC meetings. We began another exercise in file manipulation tonight. We’re reinforcing our software and operating system skills. And, were practicing reading instructions carefully. Thinking we know the drill, we may miss details that have changed. Reading instructions and requests carefully will save recontacting for clarification.

Erik KK6RKY is still having difficulty with band condx. Rick N6IET relayed him in tonight. I think we’ll have lots of relay opportunities this winter. MFSK-32 was sufficient tonight. We filled a few missing FLAMP blocks easily. Following the net, Dave K7DV and I experimented with a couple modes. THOR50x1 worked well. Let’s give this mode a little more attention.

Gene W1EEP copied the test image almost perfectly in Pine Valley,UT.

ORCA Announcements 13/dec/16

Tonight we begin another simple file manipulation exercise with

FLMSG & FLAMP. Our weekly FLAMP exercise, up next, will distribute

‘ex6.txt’. Follow the instructions to create an FLMSG BLANKFORM file.

At the top of the FLAMP TX tab is the ‘To:’ window; it defaults to

‘QST’. Setting this variable ID’s the target station.

Remember to change FLAMP,TX ‘Send to:’ from QST to ORCA,NCS,K7KY,ETC….

You can return this exercise to NCS in FLAMP today, or any practice net

in Traffic round. As always, these exercises are optional; you can send

other traffic, images, or QRU.

Let’s all send just one practice traffic per net. Bulletins and images are

OK; that’s your traffic for the session. As participation grows we want

to continue providing comprehensive practice to everyone.

Weekly Net Report usually posted next day
